Hot keyfob

Has anyone had their key fob heat up to a very warm temperature inside your pockets? I'm talking about not when you're driving the car. This happened to be a couple of times that after I got out of the RL, and had the key fob in my pocket, after some duration, I feel it heating up to a rather warm/hot temperature. I find it really odd that it would do that...is it trying to send some kind of signal to the car for some reason?

Sounds odd....have you tried the other key fob? The car does communicate, but it shouldn't be doing that much "talking" to get warm.....

The fob is a transmitter. Could something close by be confusing the fob as being the recipient device that is not the RL?

A cell phone, battery charger, PDA, remote device or even an electronic keycard may cause interference that the fob is 'stimulated' by.

Hm, it did happen with the other fob before too. I'll try to notice whether or not any electronics are near when it does heat up. I still think it is very odd...make me afraid that it'll explode in my pants or something.

Were you doing something you should not have which was transmitted to the RL? Looking at another car, perhaps? Test driving some tawdry German? Maybe you were discussing letting a maintenance interval slip? Or maybe you were simply thinking of what new cars have come to market?

Remember the Acura commercial that speaks to solar sensing climate control? It explains that the car knows the position of the sun. The last statement in that advert is ',,, just imagine what else it knows.'

Yeah, sure....it is just a transmitter. But if I were you, and want children....don't keep the Fob in your front trouser pocket.

Things exploding in pants aren't a good thing (at least most of the time). As long as the battery isn't the cause, I can't imagine anything would have that potential.

It happened when I first got my RL back in 2006, I had the Key Fob in my pocket and I don't think I was anywhere close to my car. I did have some loose change in my pocket as well and all of a sudden I felt my jeans pocket getting warmer and warmer, until I removed the FOB. After that incident it never happened again, it was kinda weird, I guess it could have been a lot worse . . . .
