wow...just a ridiculous thread on how people like customizing their own cars and are getting ridiculed because they want to escape the "americanization" of japanese vehicles. Hey, if you rebadge the car, they think, you get waaaay more horsepower... :-) this has to stop. It's just too funny.

You have to post pics of the new 06 Tech Grill. Is it because it has the built in radar for the cruise control where the emblem is?

Thumbs up conversion pictures

i managed to put the grill, but after a lot of customization. Honda is full of surprises, even after i got all the required tap in screws, i still couldn't sercure the front emblem.
Anyhow, the Tech front grill is the grill picture i have posted couple of days ago, and the regular one is on page one.
I personally love the honda grill more than the Acura now that its on, and i received compliments from everyone at the Acura dealer this morning when i picked up my car, no laughs so far.

Thanks for the pictures. Your car looks great and it is probably the only 2005-2006 Honda Legend in the country right now. The font on the Honda logo on the trunk looks different than the Legend logo, why is that? I like the look of the grill too! How much did the dealer charge you to do the conversion?

Thanks 1hotnsx,
I did the conversion my self, my car was just in service.
Honda dropped (HONDA) logo in 1996 as i recall, and if you look at JDM Legend, its has everything but Honda on the upper left corner, while the RL has (ACURA) so i had to custom order it, and thats the closest i got.

from a fellow JDM'er I can say it looks beautiful man, im loving it. All I can say is that "H" looks at home there

but.... i think u should do away with the "honda" text emblem. it doesnt look factory and doesnt match, and like u said Honda done away with it a while back. not to offend

some one sees the real reason why we have two brands. cause some stuck up americans cant pay more for a car that is a high quality but has the same emblem on the front as a 15k civic.

JDM is not rice at all man sorry. So you are saying if there was no Acura brand and what is currently the RL(which is a legend) was sold here as a Honda Legend you would not have bought it then cause it was a Honda. If you answer is yes then you are a stuck up brand buying smuck.

Damn man JDM never was rice and never will be rice. GROW UP, there isnt anything else to it.

Conversion looks great man. Glad to see there are more people that like JDM cars. I think you should get this kit for your car.

Not to hijack your thread but here is another honda conversion JFTJR to tear apart if he so desires since he is still 14 years old.

Seeing as though its a $50,000 car I'm sure these guys are proportionately more ignorant and anal about their "Acura" brand name. I'm sure they already see me as inferior for owning an Acura less becoming of "I'm a rich guy but I can't afford a 7 series."

Let's see who's the first one that bites... someone will no doubt misjudge who I am, or my social or economic status... because its the internet, and, well, that's what they do on the internet.

Its not like there will be a resolution anyway, when they find out what I do they'll just come back with a "that's sad you're a ______ yet act like you do" or "you wasted your education" or "if you're a ______ why do you act like an ass/idiot/ethug?"

Its all a vicious cycle, one that will never end as long as there are uppity Honda owners somehow convincing themselves that their cars are better than lowly Hondas.

Honda Marketing Dept. = genius, for playing on all of the uppity American public that relies so much on societal perception as a sense of self worth.

I don't think I will. Its not even a worthwhile argument. These guys are probably older guys who make a fair amount of money who have it in their heads that somehow putting an "A" instead of an "H" on the trunk of a "luxury" car after they roll off pretty much the same assembly line means they're superior to those who bought "economy" cars. Same concept as putting a nice suit on an a-hole specimen of a man: if you dress him up nicely, does that change what he really is? Should he now be revered because of one cosmetic change as a completely different individual?

Well said digitalHorizon.
CCColtsicehockey, my next step is clearing the headlight, replacing the brake caliper and the bodykit.
I assume its the Mugen kit

so you are not going to order the actual JDM headlights from japan then. I would check with aj-racing.com or boomplustoys.net to see if they can get them for you. also the kit I posted is actually the amuse kit. I think it looks better than the mugen kit actually.

You pulled this off nicely but only because I think you have the ASpec kit and the devotions. If I were to see someone with a totally stock RL attepmt this, then I'd probably clown on them, but you did it right. Nice job!

But (always a 'but', right ), I still feel that the H on the front is way too big.

[QUOTE=CCColtsicehockey]Damn man JDM never was rice and never will be rice...[QUOTE]

While I agree with most of the things you posted on this thread, I'm going to have to disagree with this one. I've been a Honda enthusiast for the past 15 years and while I can appreciate true JDM, lately I'm not too sure about the stuff coming out of Japan. The new J's stuff is very questionable, as is some Cusco and of course, Veilside. Another thing that I've noticed that I feel can be 'rice' are canards.

To get my point across, let's take the the Veilside S2000.

I believe that there is a fine line that exists between 'JDM' and 'Rice'. It's all in the execution.

Instead of clearing the headlights and going for that naked look, I'd recommend you get the JDM or EDM lights with the clear insert.

Let me guess you think that spoiler on the back of the S2000 is rice. Well to tell you the truth that spoiler is actually functional as the S2000 is rear wheel drive. Yes I know that some that is everyday driving an S2000 doesnt need that wing even if it is functional but since its functional you cant really call it rice.

what i meant by clearing is actually ordering the healight unit, and i called A&J racing.
The headlight unit is not cheap, $890 each.

i would call boom plus toys also just to get a second quote. my headlights were only 300 a piece. now I now its a higher model car but that just doesnt sound right. make sure they are not ordering you new ballast and bulbs and everything you just need the housings.

Old farts idea of customization

Please forgive the sloppy images but I no expert with Paintshop, et al.

I really didn't like the chrome on the front so started playing with various ideas that did not require much money or prep work.

Using the existing pieces i plan to hide the CHROME by covering it with a paintable vinyl (like 3M) so if I dont like it I can pull of the vinyl and back to chrome) and then paint to match original. Next step is do the same with the grill slats but in flat black leaving only the "A"

If I don't like either then I'm out a few bucks for vinyl, paint and labor. No harsh deal

Admittedly not the fanciest mods but... will suit me for the time being

Oh, It's not just the wing that makes this kit 'rice' in my book. It's the entire car. I am very well aware of the need for downforce on the S2000 as I try to track mine whenever the opportunity presents itself. But in this case with the Veilside kit, it's the entire car I feel is rice. I do like one thing that you pointed out. Functional vs. Rice.

This is functional:

This is rice (and supposedly JDM):

Maybe if you didn't spend all that money on rice toys you'd be able to afford a real car when you grew up?

Nice try, kiddies. Now go crawl back under the rocks you came from.

It's still rice.

Benush, I too had tried seeing how a modified grill would look like. Here's one I did in ps to see how it'd look with nothing, or black mesh - ala kamei for VAG cars.

first off we are not wasting a perfectly good acura at all actually. let me remind you that you are driving a honda that was built in japan in a honda plant. it may have an acura badge on it now cause of yupity americans like you who need a name to feel cool and good about themselves in public and that wouldnt have bought it if acura wasnt sold in america and the car was sold as a honda legend.

I never said a large wing on an S2000 was cool but rather it is functional due to the down force need when driving the car on a track so that it keeps traction. I dont think putting stickers all over your car is cool at all. there are 2 different types of decals on my car. 1) the show car team that I am in and 2) the names of my sponsors.

putting decals on a car for the hell of it is stupid and ricey and I will agree with that.

your everyday neon with factory wheels, unpainted body kit, and a large metal wing on the back is an example of rice. not a tastefully moded car with JDM OEM parts on it is not rice.

First off if I buy a more expensive car I am still going to mod it no matter what. Apparently to you modding a car period must be rice.

It's still rice.
No I wont go crawl back under a rock cause I didnt come from there. You make no sense by calling tastefully done modifications rice.

To be exact you bought a piece of rice in your case since it is made by Honda and badged Acura.

I invite you to inform us when it is I will be "grown up" in your eyes. While you're at it, why not post how old I am (since you obviously know), how I dress (since I wear my hat "sideways"), what car I drive (since I don't have nor can afford a "real car" and apparently am not living in a "real house" since its as "real" as my car is), and what I do for a living (since I'm not as important as you and don't "work for a living"). You can also kindly prove your aerodynamic statement about "park bench" spoilers being non-functional in a theoretical proof or CFD model.

I assume you know all this information since you obviously are such a wise older gentleman, there's no possible way you'd be making random generalizations when a couple of clicks could yield you informed statments.

Ohhh, that's right. "I'm not going to waste my time on you." Well, sir, if you're going to waste your time throwing stuff out there about me, you might want to waste some time learning your insult subject. Of course, since you're already high and mighty I doubt there's anything that you'd concede as being positive about me.

I mean, even if I was a rocket scientist I don't think you'd admit I might actually have societal worth.

That's all for now, I have to go outside and look around for a real car to drive home, this fake car is really hard to find sometimes.
