Help Identify please

I was getting some items out from the trunk this morning and noticed this piece of tape on the right hand outside lip of the trunk. Can someone tell me what this is for? Paint chip?

Thats the vin number, it should be on each panel I believe to identify if parts have been replaced/in accident etc...

Thet's what it is, however, not all manufacturers put them on every panel. Acura does and because of that it is very easy to tell if a car has had paint or body work.
