Hey guys saw that this site was filled with useful information so i decided to join. Just recently bought an 06 RL about a week ago and am very impressed with the overall look and features that come with the car. Just a quick question tho, its the first time ive bought a car that tells me when it needs to go into service, i have always been accustomed to just looking at the owners manual and doing everything that needed to be done before x amount of km's. The car should hit 60k miles in about two months, should I just wait for the indication light to come on or is there a site that specifically tells me what needs to be done when it hits the 60k mark. All i know is that the timing belt needs to be changed my then. All the help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats, nice car!

Read the owners manual. It will answer many questions and also tell you the timing belt is not due until about 100K miles.

Sign up on the Acura Owners Link with your VIN and get a pdf of your manual.

Same car i had before trading in for a 2010 tech. Your paint looks to be in better condition on the nose/bumper tham mine - I had many rock chips. I probably over-service my cars but that is the caretaker in me. oil chnages @ 3750 and other service every 7500-10000 miles. I think the entire time Ihad my '06 (78000 miles) my mainteneance minder came on only once. Enjoy your '06 - it will spoil you. I would have your service tech check the condition of your auto tranny fluid and diff fluids. Use only Honda fluids.

So i looked at the manual and it basically tells me to wait for a maintenance reminder to come up to get it serviced. Called acura and they basically told me the same thing. Not really happy about that but what can you do? So To those who have or are going to do this... When the 60,000 mile came up, what did u have checked or serviced?

• For sure i will get the auto tranny fluid and diff fluids checked but anyyhing else?
• also to those who experience winter conditions in their area, how do the stock tires handle in the snow/ice? Just trying to figure out if i should even buy winter tires. ( and btw, edmonton winters go from -20 to -30 or even colder)
• being a US car, do they have block heaters (plug ins)?

Get winter tires! The stock michelin tires will slip and slide all over the road. This car with snow tires is a joy to drive in the snow. Without snow tires, it is a nightmare.

we bought an 06 recently. Took it to the dealer and said "change the dif and trans fluid." Twice they looked at it and said, "wait until it tells us it it time." Short of telling them "do it," I have accepted their word as they have never steered me wrong in 18 years.

At 40K miles, just a simple drain and fill, not the 3x version, did wonders in smoothing things out.

Regarding the MID nanny system, see description below. Also look in the OM and you can see that severe conditions will recommend maintenance more frequent than MID recommends, for example, driving in mountainous areas. Also, brake fluid is recommended to be changed every 3 years, which reminds me, mine is due for a brake fluid change.

MAINTENANCE MINDER SYSTEM
To eliminate unnecessary service stops while ensuring that the vehicle is properly maintained, the RL has a Maintenance Minder System that automatically monitors the vehicle's operating condition. When maintenance is required, the driver is alerted via a message on the Multi-information display.

The system monitors operating conditions such as oil and coolant temperature and engine speed to determine the proper service intervals. Depending on the operating conditions, oil change intervals can be extended to a maximum of 10,000 miles, potentially sparing the owner considerable money and inconvenience over the life of the car. The owner-resettable system monitors all normal service parts and systems, including oil and filter, tire rotation, air-cleaner, automatic transmission fluid, spark plugs, timing belt, coolant, brake pads and more. To prevent driver distraction, maintenance alerts are presented when the ignition is first turned on, not while driving.

Welcome and nice RL. One of my colleagues has one just like it--it was parked in the physicians' lot when I pulled in this morning. What a great color combo.

American RL's had block heaters available as a dealer installed option. Buy the parts off the internet from an online Acura dealer, and have it installed.

so it finally went in for servicing at acura today ...

1) the car needed an oil change and to my surprise they told me that the rl didnt need synthetic?.... so i went ahead and got their standard oil change as they clearly stated to me that it was not necessary. has anyone else gone ahead and done this?
2) just a heads up but for anyone who needed a block heater installed and is wondering about pricing. Mine came up to $225 part & labor included, so its actually not expensive at all
3) got a new set of michelins xiceII's as well..has anyone had any experiences with these? ive looked around and am getting mixed reviews
4) as for the lisence plate bulbs, i believe mine are starting to go. ive looked at the casing but cant figure out how to get to them. has anyone done this? i want to switch them out with pure white led's.

I always use synthetic... to get to the liscense plate bulbs you have to take the trunk lining off or at least the top section and there is access right to it....there is a thread on here somewhere..

Try this for license plate

These LEDs work best for me, far brighter than normal 194 LEDs, but I like a bright clean light.

On the other hand, I was asked, why do you want the police to see your license so clearly?
