Heavy vs The Glove Box Rattle
Heavy vs The Glove Box Rattle
Hey guys, I have been on the road traveling for the past week and decided to take the RL instead of a rental.
Before leaving I searched the board to find a fix for the damn glove box rattle and the only two fixes I found were adding a foam strip and getting the dealer to replace it.
I opted for the foam as I am at 96k and my extended warranty didn't cover it (and I didn't feel like arguing)
The foam worked nicely for the first day, then I guess it started to compress and stopped working, after about 2 hours of driving I gave in and had to find this rattle even if it meant buying a new glove box.

After multiple tests here is what I found.... A LOOSE SCREW!!
Yes not in my head, in the gap where the bottom of the glove box (while closed) meets the dash board!!

Both screws across the bottom were loose and one had fallen out completely.

After tightening them up, I have YET to hear a single squeak or rattle.
I hope this helps you guys.

Great detective work - for once an easy fix. I was going to suggest the owners manual tray could be the culprit. sometimes when the in cabin filter is replaced the weak plastic clips that hold the tray in place break. No fix except new glove box. Dealer broke and had to replace the $400 glove box.
Thanks, great point. I do not want to say that this is the fix all... it could certainly be other things but I would recommend checking here before buying a glove box.
