Heated Seats Malfunction?

Used the heated seats for the first time last night.

Mine appeared to heat on the seat cushion bottom and the lower back.

The passenger side, however, my wife said, here seat bottom was warming but not the lower back.

How exactly are the seats supposed to heat? In previous cars I have had with this feature (only 1 Toyota) both front seat bottoms and lower backs heated.

Thanks

That's because of the Occupant Position Sensor on the passenger side which turns off the side airbag if someone isn't sitting properly or there is a child in the passenger seat.

Thanks!

You are all a wealth of information!

My wife will not be happy to hear that the lower back does not warm. She likes the lower back warmth after a couple of hours of tennis. I guess I will have to let her drive on those days!
