Headlights have some sort of dust/build up on the inside?

I recently purchased a certified preowned RL with 35K miles on it. I noticied that at night when you look at the headlights with them on, you can very clearly see some sort of dust accumaltion on the inside of the glass of the headlight unit. This is on both headlights. I obvioulsy thought this was some sort of defect and took it into the dealer. They explained to me that this is normal. In fact he pulled another used RL with similar mileage and it also had a very similar dust/dirt accumalation. So on that basis they have said that this is not a warranty issue.

My question is - Is this normal? Does anyone else have this issue? Has anyone else who had this issue tried to get it fixed? What was the result?

Thanks in adavnce for the feedback.

I have seen a lot of cars which had been in accidents had dust/dirt in the headlights. It might cause by the dust (sanding) when the repair shop working on the car.

Over time, a plastic headlight will "dull" or "cloud" due to UV exposure and the heat created by the bulbs. Is this what you're seeing?
Same thing was happening to my TL by the time I traded it in.

Welcome to AZ! Definitely keep posting.

I haven't had this issue with my car, to my knowledge. I would think, with my inadequate expertise, that someone opened up the headlights (accident? attempt to clear headlights? dunno....) for enough dust to accumulate for you to notice.

No, they aren't dull it just seems that there is some dust in a few spots on the inside. The rest of the glass is perfectly clear and you can only really notice it at night when the lights are on.

Interesting. I was looking at my headlights last night and I can't see any way dust could get in there... even when the bulbs are removed.
Could be a very small gap in the glue that bonds the lens to the housing allowing moisture inside. Keep in mind that as a headlight cools, much like a muffler, it will pull the colder, ambient air (moisture and all) inside if there are any gaps.

Welcome to the greatest advice site! That does sound odd. You should definitely post some pics when you get a chance - if you don't in the future for posts like this, you will more than likely get a...

Sounds like you're saying the dust isn't noticeable unless you turn on your headlights, then go up front and look into them. I assume the bright light makes the dust show up, based on what you're describing.

If that's right, and the dust isn't hurting anything, I wouldn't sweat it. I doubt it's going to have any adverse effect on headlight performance or life, and is just a minor cosmetic thing.

my car (which was in an accident) had the light module completely replaced. So if there's dirt or dust in ONE of them, it could be that someone tried to goof with the light. If it's in BOTH of them, it could be environment (repair shop, dusty storage location, etc.).

Either way I'd have an Acura dealer look at it...

If the headlight were replaced and the person who did this flipped the assemble down to access the back then dust will fall onto the lens. The way I was told to remove it was to use compressed air which of course requires you to remove the bumper to get to the RL headlights

another thread revival.

Removing the bumper and the light is convenient if you have time to kill.
