Hazing on Headlamp Covers

I know there is a 3M DIY kit that supposedly removes the haze on the lamp covers (basically a cheap yellowing of the plastic). But at $1200 for each unit, I'm afraid to even try to fix it. You're talking using a drill, wet sanding, fine sanding, etc.

Unfortunately, no matter how clean the car is, the covers just bug me. Of course I see the same problem on most any car that's five years old or older.

Has anyone took this problem to a detail shop to tackle and if so how much did they charge and the final results?

Thanks

a lot of places refinish headlights, just make sure the person you take it to knows what they are doing.... I beleive it's relatively inexpensive though.....option 2 apply a light tint your headlights to throw the yellowing off....g/l with let us know how it works out

This is why I put the 3M paint protection on my headlights, as well as the front of the car.

I have no noticeable deterioration (yellowing, cloudiness, crazing, cracking). I would suggest you do the same once you get the surface refinished, whether you do it yourself or have someone do it.

How bad is the hazing? If you inspect it closely can you notice clear coat coming off of or patching at a few spots?

Do not use sand paper to refinish the lights. Get yourself one of the following kits

https://store.mothers.com/product_in...id=218&cPath=8

you can get it from local Autozone/pepboys etc.

Use it to polish the lens back to new condition and then apply a set of 3M headlight film to make sure they lenses dont oxidize again.

the 3m kit is easy. I used it on my forgs and a couple of headlamps. Just double or triple tape the edges carefully so the drill doent accidentally bounce onto the paint.

If you own a drill and have used it I wouldnt worry to much about it.

Use light pressure and beware of which way its rotating. Use the hand on the handle as sort of an anchor and the other hand on the shaft of the drill at the very tip to guide the head of the drill.
