Good Deal Or Not?
Hey Guys just need your opinion on this RL im looking to get into. its a 2005 with 75,xxx miles on it runs really good, and I got the guy at the dealership down to $16,000.
Also it has the ASPEC Badge on it and obviously has the Lip kit on it, but doesnt have the rims and doesnt seem to have the ASPEC suspension on it thats supposed to give it a 1" drop.
Link
Just looking for some feedback so i dont jump into the wrong car.

personally, it sounds about right...esp with the kit. I only have a problem with all those butt marks on the leather seats! If you get it, we'll have to meet up since you're another bostonian! (plus same age haha)

Yea i def noticed the leathers, but its going to be hard to find 1 without some kind of wear somewhere on the car. But if i get the car well def have to meet up.
Are these cars problematic in any way?

There are a few threads on the problems with the 05... there are some quirks.
I'll see if I can dig them up for you, the beauty here is at 75k most of the issues should have occurred already.

Not too many since I am coming from an Audi A4 which had a problem everyday...I got the 2005 NBP and the only problem so far is some climate control bulb going out, flickering low beam bulb....my AFS went off once but that's probly a sensor. If you do some search, you might get the AFS, propeller shaft issues but i don't think its something you need to worry too much about. Pretty reliable vehicle! PS. There are 2005 RL's out there with no butt marks! I was sold with mine since I don't have to stare at those ugly prints everyday!

This is not to scare you away, but rather, it is to inform you of what to look for. Please keep in mind that the 2005 RL has consistently ranked at the top of reliability reports, and none of these issues are show stoppers. Push the car in the right place at the right time to catch these issues. Good Luck!

Oh yeah, that price sounds fair. Don't worry about miles, Legends can forever IF they are maintained. There is a 2G Legend here with over 500k mi and a 2G RL with over 315k. Get those service records to be sure.

Thanks, that was very helpful. Im going to see if I can get some service records on this vehicle so I can see what has been done.
And Def going to have to get the Xtended Warranty for it.

007 beat me to it, but I have 109k on mine and the short list of my personal issues are:
Door handle short
Interior (button) lights out
Leather arm rest rips
Glove box rattle
Headlight flicker
I had to pull the mirror fuse to rest it
Occasional AFS/Check air bag warning
Drive-train whining
Mechanically I have had no issues that weren't the result of poor service work, and I had the PS recall done.

Just from personal experience with first year model cars, I would stay away from this one! The extra saved will be forgotten quickly when you're constantly in the shop for minor nuisances.

If you do your homework, you should be able to decide if this car is worth it or not.

I actually saw the car..was getting some parts and realized that you were looking to buy this car haha. It looked nice! Exterior is in pretty awesome condition..minus the scuffs at the front of the kit. I think you should get it!

make sure you have service records and that work has been done to the car. If not, plan on spending another $5k in repairs. My 05 has been the worst car I have ever owned in terms of repairs, luckily warranty covered it all. Search my posts and you'll see, everything from ac to torque converter to prop shaft bearing to AFS and on, and these are all common probs highlighted on the board. I have 78k miles on the car and I am hoping the car has been ironed out as my warranty ends in May, though I do hear a bit of a whine at 50 mph when I tap the gas...guess it will be another warranty repair.
My advice, FWIW, would be to look at an 06 or 07 and pay 2-3k more.

Oh yea, thats crazy. It is a realy nice car and everything seems to be working perfectly. But i dont have time to deal with visiting the dealer every couple on months for little things.
What year is your RL?

Unless EVERYTHING is reported.
Well, even then it's still as good, but not quite garbage. Dealer records can make a sale b/c of Carfax.

I have all the service done at acura dealers. If you were to look at the carfax on my car none of it shows on it. When I asked the owner of the dealership why-he told me they do not share info with carfax

There was a guy that bought a CPO TL and his paint started bubbling, they found the car had been painted... Carfax fail... I'm sure there are more stories.
Its a shady world bro.
Anyway... sorry to thread jack.
You need to make sure all the body panels have the ID tags, look for over spray, and have a pro check the paint to ensure its all legit if you want a clean car.

Perhaps yours was an exception. If you search around most car forums, the consensus is that 1st year models (doesn't matter what brand) tend to have lots of bugs; and the best year to get is the end of the model cycle. My old '00 Maxima, '04 RX330 and '05 Tc were classic examples, as problems after problems surfaced.

That has been discussed to ad nauseum here (the discussion is in the first link I posted). However, even with the quirks and bugs of the systems, none have been known to render the car undrivable. The 2005 RL has been praised for it's reliability. I completely understand where you are getting at because I work with new production lines and quality issues. A new production is almost always at more risk than an old one. Still, when you line up the number of issues with an '05 RL versus the number of issues with an '05 535, E class, or A6, the RL has fewer issues over hundreds of thousands of cars. And when you are talking about an A/C stator versus a high-pressure fuel pump, I will take a broken A/C any day. I may be hot getting to work, but I'll still get to work.
The number 2005 RLs with issues is lower than the number of them without issues. It is just that the number is higher than we expect from Honda.

LoL.... what ever makes you feel better... the first year of the hayabusa was the fastest unrestricted motorcycle... the following years not so much.
The first year toyotas had solid front axles the newer models not so much.
But hey I'll go along with no one should own a first year RL..

I can agree with that. The probability is higher on first year cars, and I believe the RL has not beaten the odds. However, it is still worth looking at. Like I said, push it in the right places and you will find the weaknesses IF they are there.
