Good deal for brake job?

Hey fellas, I apologize that I don't have too much time right now to do a search, but I wanted to know what should be considered a good job for a brake job. I need to get an inspection and oil change done, so I'm sure it's going to come up. Thanks in advance!

You mean as far as price? Do you need front and back? Pads and rotors? Fluid change?

sorry about that. I was quoted $877 incl tax for front breaks (he said brembo pads are more expensive and quoted $250 instead of $290) with was like $550 with 2 hours labor instead of 2 1/2, $45 for the oil change (I guess this is the basic B1 or A1 service can't remember), $30 for new wiper blades, $37 inspection, then new cabin air filters (though he didn't say that price).

$877 sounds shocking, but is that good, okay, or no?

Thanks again guys.

no. it's not good.

you're getting robbed.

considering that brakes are the simplest things to change, 900 is a lousy lousy lousy price to pay.

It didn't include rotor and that they would just cut them down (I would've hated to see how much it could've been with rotors) but they were the brembo brakes.

I am surprised bc up to this point, this guy has always looked out for me and took care of me for several years now.

^well, its a standard labor cost that makes it expensive.

by the book, it takes up to 2 hours.

I can get it done in 2 hours or less.
and if i had a lift and air tools it would be under 1 hour.

and brembo pads arent all that special.
Autozone's durulast cmax gold pads are pretty awesome for 70 bucks.

What is that site that Aziners go to for OEM parts? Acuraoemparts.com from Delray Acura? or is there another oem site as well? Basically, I will quote which prices are online, and give them the 2 hour labor as a compromise. If they can't do that for me, then I walk.

Thanks for all the help so far Justnspace. Do you or anyone else know the part #'s associated with the brakes? I will also search for the wiper blades and cabin air filters.
I am a semi noob when it comes to this and since money is currently tight, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I dont see the dealer knocking off the price of labor.

600 dollars for all of that STILL sounds crazy expensive.

maybe you can try to find an independent mechanic?

Start cutting your costs like the cabin filter. You can find instructions on this site how to do it yourself. All you have to do it get behind your glove box. It $ave$ that labor cost.

First, the brakes are Advics, not Brembo. There is no reason to pay more than $120 for ANY pad. I use Napa Adaptive1 on my cars and pay ~$70. There is also nothing special about changing brake parts on a Honda. Buy your parts online, and take your car to a brake shop. My shop will change the pads on an single axel for $110.

OEM Acura RL 2008 FRONT BRAKE parts

Acura Parts @ AcuraOEMparts.com - Genuine Acura OEM Parts from Delray Acura

Thanks guys! What parts would I need from these above links to get the job done? Again this semi noob appreciates the advice! Since it will only be 2 hours labor for everything, I figure I can buy the air filter and wiper blades from here too. If they throw up a stink, I can do the latter two by myself.

#5 the pad set. ~$122.00

However; the autozone or napa pads do the same thing for about 70 bucks

Awesome, thanks so much! Last question (hopefully).

OEM Acura RL 2008 FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER parts

Acura Parts @ AcuraOEMparts.com - Genuine Acura OEM Parts from Delray Acura

Do you or anyone know the part number for the wiper blade only (I am assuming this includes the rubber strip). Lastly, I was not able to find the appropriate link to the cabin air filter on there. I definitely need both as my rubber strips are halfway detached and my ac has that 'I need to have the air filter changed' kind of smell. Thanks again and I am learning so much right now

dumb question, do they sell an oem cabin air filter since I can't find it listed? I wanted to eventually get a K&N one but never got around to it. Maybe now is the time. I saw one listed on XLR8.

K&N Drop-In High-Flow Air Filter - Excelerate - HOA - Japanese Performance Specialist

I'm guessing this is the one I'm looking for?

wow, the pad set on Delray says $169.10 and $166.85 at the other place. Where did you get it so cheap for $122??

I don't think he did. The link you provided says $166 which is preposterous. Nothing you are changing here needs to be Acura. You can get all of the parts at an Autozone or similar auto parts shop.

The cabin filter, engine filter, wiper inserts*, brake pads, oil, and oil filter are all 50% cheaper and probably better quality at an auto parts store.

I say wiper inserts because the RL wipers are special (like short bus special, not awesome special). The only aftermarket option is to buy PIAA inserts (the rubber piece) and replace that. That is the best option and number one choice here. A search for "wiper insert" in the "search this forum" toolbar will do the trick.

sounds good to me. I definitely want the K&N air filter though,

Would this be the correct one to get?

Hey guys, went through a rough stretch but I am here to revisit this and get the RL back on the road. I took your advice and researched the front brakes for the RL at auto parts shops and saw these:

AutoZone | Auto Parts & Accessories | Repair Guides & More

http://www.pepboys.com/parts/brakes_...03.5L%2520SOHC

I am a casual assertive driver so I would like something nice and I have someone I know that can install them for me and I will throw him a few bucks on the side. If I were to go to Autozone, I would get the highest one off of there but Pepboys has a larger selection. What would you guys recommend off there? Would you recommend from a different place? I also see that Pep Boys is giving 20% off which is always nice.

Thanks again fellas for helping out a relative noob here!!

Tirerack has Centric Rotors high carbon for around $70 a rotor and the Akebono pads do a great job for daily driving brakes. Parts can all be found on tireracks website. Much better than the run of the mill stuff at autopart stores

From the Pepboys site, I would go with the Akebono or EBC Red Stuff pads, but you can likely find the same parts cheaper elsewhere. For stuff like this, I usually read up on reviews, find the part numbers for what I want through a reputable site (like TireRack), and then see if Amazon sells it for cheaper.

I see some good deals on Amazon incl the Akebono.

What did you guys think about this one in comparison?

Amazon.com: Beck Arnley 089-1718 OE Brake Pad: Automotive Amazon.com: Beck Arnley 089-1718 OE Brake Pad: Automotive

is it worth the jump in price? the discount is huge though!

It was K&N, a decent price for K&N, $10 off the bundle, and free shipping so I was happy!

It was the lowest I saw on K&N out there!

Thanks for the help everyone! I winded up going with the Akebono bc it was a sweet deal plus I just decided to buy the front and rear.. I needed the front but the rear wasn't too far behind so I figured to bang em both out now.

Next up, UR pulley research which I will post on another thread.
