Front rotor and pads for a 2005 RL
Hey Guys,
I am about to replace the rotors and pads on my father in law's 2005 RL. We were just thinking of getting the parts from the Acura Dealer. The rotors are $150 each and the pads are $250 for the front. That seems really high even for dealer parts. So, my question is, has anyone found cheaper but good rotors and pads? Second, are there any tricks I need to look out for when doing this job. Thanks

Do yourself a BIG favor, purchase the four aluminum screws (two per front side) that hold the rotors in place. They are very easy to strip and you'll be glad you spent the $2.50 (for all four) in order to finish the job in one day.

job done
No problem on the brake job. I ended up going with the Acura parts. The job was quite easy except for getting the lug nuts off. Snapped the lug nut wrench in two. Some yahoo must have zipped them on to tight with the impact wrench. I saw the suggestion about buying the caliper bolts too late. Got lucky and nothing stripped or cross threaded. The brake set up was really sweet.
After test driving the car I thought I heard the power steering pump making some noise ..........Well, that's how it goes I guess.

As soon as you put them on the car, the friction surface wears to silver like any other brake disc.

While doing my 05 RL front caliper brake job, I noticed a metal piece below the brake pads that is broken. It looks like it was either rivetted or screwed into the lower part of the caliper. A mechanic says this piece has to be replaced because the pads may wear the caliper due to brake pad movement. Is this correct otherwise I have to buy a complete caliper for this reason.
