First Time RL Buyer

Hello! I'm new here, did a quick search for 1st time buyer guides but didn't find much. If anyone can point me towards one it would be much appreciated.

Anyway, so I'm looking at purchasing a 2G RL and I'm curious about what the common issues are. I don't intend on modifying anything, just looking for a comfy daily driver and I would like to stay within the Honda brand. I currently drive a BB6 Prelude 5spd, and I'm a life-long Honda guy...so naturally I'm a little scared of automatic transmissions made by Honda. I think their newer auto trans' are solid, but anything 1990-2008 I'm weary about. My main concern is obviously the transmission, but if there are any other common issues worth mentioning please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm going to continue to educate myself on the RL, so if you have any tips or resources you feel like sharing please do.

Thanks!

Here's a thread that might give you the info you're looking for:

https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...oblems-948950/

I believe the transmission in those is pretty solid. If I recall, Acura actually started using the RL transmission in the 2007-2008 TL since the 2004-2006 TL auto's were prone to failure. Once they did that, the 07-08 TL auto's were much more reliable. But like any Honda auto, make sure to take extra care of it. I have a 4G TL - totally different transmission but I still change the fluid about every 10K miles as good insurance. If the car is new to you, I'd recommend a 3x3 "flush" which is essentially doing a drain and refill of the transmission three times. You should drive it a while before doing each drain/refill to allow it to fully mix. Some folks will drive for a couple days before doing the next. You shouldn't do any sort of "power-flush" on Honda automatic transmissions. But by doing the 3x3 flush you're replacing about 2/3rds of the fluid which is a good start.

There is no issues with transmissions of RL. Any generation . They are all solid.

05-06 have problems like doorhandles , navigation system dvd player failure etc. Small electrical stuff nothing major.

Only minor issue, like bubbling and tearing of the driver side armrest material where your left knee rubs against it. Nothing major. Great car, easy to maintain and this website has answers to ALL of your questions. You can hit me up with any questions.

I wouldn’t say nothing major for 05/06. I had over $5k of warranty work on my 05. AC died, prop shaft, afs, side mirror...all common. They all showed up between 45-60k miles. Nothing since then really. No tranny issues. Great car.

Unfortunately, the 05 suffered from first year issues.

WOW... I just popped on here to look for the best place to run an ad on an RL.

I have a 2010 RL, technology package, 65k, Grigo Metallic. Comes with Clear bra and weather tech mats in great shape.
It was my Dads car before his passing and then my daughter drove it while taking care of my mom. All service has been maintained per schedule.
Interested?

Thank you, but I was looking for something older to keep the cost down. Ended up finding a 2008 CGP w/Tech at a local Acura dealer. Previous owner was an older woman and it's in amazing shape. Plus, dealer just replace timing belt, all drive belts, water pump, and spark plugs last week. I love it!
