Fair Price for Base 2006 RL?

Hi,

A dealer offered me $43,500 for a base 2006 RL yesterday with nothing else thrown in. Granted, I didn't push hard but reading all forums, it seems about $3K overpriced.

I am not interested in the Tech Pak, per se but would like other minor goodies such as wheel locks, rust protection, mats, etc. I am comfortable negotiating those once I get an idea of a base price.

Regardless, can you please tell me what you might have paid or negotiated in the last couple of weeks? Also, is the $4k dealer incentive still in play?

Thanks,

HP.

Based on the same posts you're reading, I think the quoted price is $3,000 to $4,000 too high. Of course, pricing varies a bit based on location and dealer competitiveness. If I were you, I would try to get a deal of around $39,500 including some of the common accessories. Maybe a bit more if you want some of the pricier addons like backup camera, etc.

The $4,000 incentive was still being offered when I last checked.

Let us know how you do.

Seems like a very high quote. I got my 2006 Base RL 2 weeks ago in the DC/VA/MD area for $39,499; included wheel locks, liftetime oil changes, and lifetime state inspections. I would shoot for $39K and work yourself up.... that's my opinion. Good luck!

Also, I would seriously pass on the rust protection. Front quarter panels, hood and trunk are made of aluminum. Additionally, the body panels are treated so that I highly doubt you'll have rust issues.

Great advice on pricing so far ... when I'm asked to present what I want to pay, I'll start off at $39K and see if I get thrown out I checked a couple of websites which list Dealer Incentives and did not see the $4K and the dealer reaction to $39K very well will tell me for sure.

I am looking in NJ. I plan on wrapping up a deal with someone in the next two days.

Edmunds.com shows that there is still 4k marketing support from Acura expiring Jan 2 2007. I think if you get a deal around 40k for brand new (under 40 miles or so), that would be a great deal. Edmunds list TMV pricing in my area (Northern California central valley) as around 42k shipping included, but before tax and lic. TMV pricing is the average price paid in the area. You might check edmunds for your zip code to see if avg price paid is lower or higher.

OK...I had 4 offers but only one dealer had the model, color and interior that I wanted for the base 2006 RL.

We agreed on a deal for $41,700 including destination charges. Trying to get a few goodies when I go in to pick it up tonight.

I had demo offers ranging from 5K miles ($39,500) to $2K miles ($40,000). I had two others offers for a new cars @ $40,700 but they did not have the cars in the lot.

I suppose I paid extra $1K for not wanting to wait but I didn't want the purchase to drag out and the dealer I bought from is actually much closer.

Thanks for all the advice and I hope this helps others.

Congrats on your deal and I hope you continue to post your impressions.

If you can get some goodies included for that price, you'll be golden.

Congrats! Please let us know how you like it. If you really want to know how good the RL is, test drive some of the other cars in its class and even above. Until I did this, I did not REALLY know what a bargain this car is. Everytime I get in it and I must amazed. The car is just so smooth

2006 RL Price-Just Purchased!

First, a huge thank you for this site! Given the information that I found here, I was able to save huge dollars on my new RL. This is my first post, and I felt I owed it to the forum to list what I paid and speak of my recent purchase experience.

The RL is my dream car. I have wanted one since purchasing my TL back in 2001 (and that was the old RL model, which doesn't look nearly as sharp as the new ones that debuted in 2005.)

Although I took great care of my TL (it still looked brand new), it was "getting long in the tooth," approaching 100,000 miles, and needing new tires, brakes, and realistically a timing belt. While visiting my local Acura dealership (Northeast in Latham, NY) for service on my wifes MDX, I inquired about the RL, with no serious thoughts of purchase at the time.

They had given me an RL as a day loaner while my car was in the shop and I was seriously impressed by the many, many features. Further, I loved the styling, as I had loved the styling of my TL. Truth be told, I would have gladly purchased another TL, had Acura not changed the design in 2004. I was REALLY turned off by the boxy BMW look of the new TL's. I know the new style is appealing to many, but it just wasn't me. I wanted more of a luxury, touring car, with some sports car performance thrown in. The new TL's seemed to be the inverse of that.

Upon returning the RL loaner, I asked the price and was pleasantly surprised when they said the last three 06's on the lot were listed for $44,500. Still too high to make me bite, but in the ballpark to arouse my interest. I then found this site, and learned of the $4000k in dealer incentive. I called my sales rep at the dealer (who I had already bought two cars from, a TL and an MDX) and offered $41,000. They countered at $43,000 and then we split the difference to make it $42,000.

The only issue that remained was that they didn't have the color I wanted-Opulent Blue Pearl. I eventually paid them $400 extra to get the car in that color, because the only one to be found was about 350 miles away, in Pennsylvania.

Based on past vehicle purchases, I knew that dealers routinely "swapped out" vehicles so their customers could get the exact color and trim packages they desired. This wasn't to be the case for this purchase....I was told that as the year was almost over, there was little incentive for other dealers to "swap out" vehicles, and they couldn't get me the color I wanted based on the price they were offering. I politely told them that this was a dealbreaker. If I was going to pay over $40,000 for a car, I darn well wanted it in the color of my choosing. I then offered to pay for it, assuming it was a fair price. $400 was a number I could live with.

Long story short, I ended up paying $42,000 for the base 2006 RL. Added options were a $400 fee to get the color I wanted, a rear view camera install ($488-labor & parts) and an iLink for my iPod ($325-labor & parts) making the fitted out total approximately $43,200.

I did poll a few out of state dealers prior to making the purchase and probably could have saved a little bit more, but I weighed that against the good relationship I have with our local dealer, and its sales and service team. I concluded that it wasn't worth it. To say I'm happy is an understatement. What an incredible machine! I feel like I don't even deserve a car this nice. So many well thought out touches make me feel like I'm driving a Mercedes-at half the price with twice the technology.

pp8010, I used much the same logic in sticking with my current (local) dealer. I paid about the same as you here in Cleveland.

Welcome to the club and (officially) to Acurazine....please keep posting your impressions and some pics!

New RL

Just purchased a 06 RL in Silver with Ebony seats for 41000.00. Almsot 10,000 less than sticker. Has wheel locks, mud flaps, trunk tray and some kind of paint treatment thrown in. Also, Honda is offering 4.9% now as well. They had to get me the car from out-of-state and barely made enough to pay the salesman. There are still deals out there.

Congrats on u r new RL

Welcome to the Club.I bought 06 Tech Package RL for 43100.I did not get the color I wanted but I thought color is not that important to me than the car itself. So ..finally took it. Threw few extras like lock nuts, trunk mat, floor mats and mudflaps for 550 $ more..hey but no regrets...I am happy.

Same for me. $41k w/ flaps, locks, mats and trunk liner, 2nd color choice from PA, 320 miles away. It's hard to bang that last bit of negotiating when the dealer doesn't actually have the car. With so few 06's left (at least in new England), the dealers are looking to cover some additional costs and work.
