Exhaust Questions. Searched but found nothing on rl besides 5zigen

hey guys as title says, i have searched but nothing.

my question is has anyone done stage exhaust on an rl? i know many tls have done it and i as well did it on my old tl.

but my question is this, would i save gas customizing my exhaust? or is stock gas saver?

i want to remove the mid muffler and change the resonators to something like dynomax. would that sound good? as well would it save me gas?

i hate my mpg i get 20mpg city/quick hwy and 24mpg all hwy. i was used to getting 26mpg city nd 32 hwy on my 3gtl. and with alot of modding on the tl. plus 6sp did alot of the gas saving. and with this rl i notice my gas needle going down so quick.

now i know the answer for gas saving is some where else but im going to ask. how would i go about on saving gas. i dont hit the gas pedal like a speeder. i drive normal, 65-70mph on hwy and 35-40 city or 25mph.

well i would appricate the answer on exhaust if i should go about this, save's me money then spending $100's on the 5zigen exhaust. dont get me wrong its a sexy exhaust but dont want to spend alot on that. especially my fiance hates exhaust period. but she got used to the tl. well thanks guys.

and sorry if im not putting this in the write place or if i didnt look hard enough.

if you want to save gas, tires are key. Touring tires will get you the best mileage while performance tires will take a huge hit.

my short ram intake seemed to improve my gas mileage a bit, but it also could be due to the fact that I could hear my engine rev better so I was more mindful of it.

The best mileage on my RL came from Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires. Not stock size but close enough not to cause problems.

i think the mpg issue is just something you have eto live with.. you can drive it super easy and maybe see a small improvement.. but the bottom line is the RL has a bigger engine than that TL you had, it has AWD, which sucks some power, AND it weighs more... so it burns more fuel to do the same thing...

i bet i average low 20s.....

the reality is if you check similar cars. a similar year 5 series, or E class... which are comparable in engine size, weight, etc.. i'll bet the mileage is similar.

http://www.visionaryracing.com/store...ewCat&catId=17 Under engine, there are some exhaust options. However, DO NOT buy from this guy. A member here lost $1,600 to Sam a.k.a. Touge, the guy who runs this site. I would use it purely as a reference for possible mods. His build thread is in the photogallery and was one of the cleanest RLs around.

http://www.bulletproofautomotive.com...lt.php?make=27 This also has a Mugen and Amuse exhaust, but I have no clue about the site reliability.

thanks guys for all the gas saver tips. and dam i saw the link you sent me and want that intake. why shouldn't i trust him? on his page seemed like he helped alot of members.

but didnt get an answer if someone has tried the removal of a mid muffler and resonator on an rl. opening the lines of exhaust meaning straight pipe would i burn gas? or will it save a little letting the air flow out easier but with a bit of a growl sound?

and on tires so continental DWS tires wont save gas huh? because i love those tires had them on my tl for winter and summer.

Do what you please, but this is a Cardinal Sin as a business owner.

The DWS will not save you any mpgs, but they will buy you some smiles. Fun, but not if you watch the mileage gauge.

there's something worse than DWS on mpg, that would be DW summer tires. Those buy even more smiles.

I plan on removing the resonators, third cat, and adding the same magnaflow resonator the TL's add to their staged exhaust. Looking for a similar sound but less agressive. Since the RL exhaust is split, I'll need to add two. But who knows when I'll do this. Need to complete my 105K service first.

thats what i want to do. but my question on exhaust vs gas. will opening the exhaust(straight pipes) gain or loss gas. i know it wont do anything to gain power. just worried on mpg.

I don't think you lose any mpg and I think you may gain a few HP. What you will gain is more emissions. Does your state test smog? I can't imagine how you could lose mpgs.

Correct. No way helping the car breathe better will lose mpg unless you become pedal happy which most people do
