Ebay timing belt kit
Ebay timing belt kit
Hi fellow Acura peeps. I recently purchased this kit:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/15541385933...UAAOSwIEFgP582
My mechanic who is worth his salt didn't notice anything wrong with the parts, but a friend mentioned to me about "fake kits"..
I did notice "Mitsobishu" on the TB itself which is normal I believe. Did I screw up?
Thank you

Fakes are definitely a thing - next time buy from a large retailer like rockauto so that you know their supply chain probably doesn't include fake parts.
I'm not saying your eBay kit is a fake though, unless someone else can spot any signs, it could be totally genuine 👍

I would buy parts from honda to be safe, than being worried all the time, and compare everything. Then return ebay parts, i think ebay provide satisfaction guarantee or something like that. Some dealers will take returns for full refund as long as the package has not been opened. Next time either buy honda oem or aisin kit from rockauto. Saving couple hundred dollars for crucial engine parts is not worth it, in my opinion. Also original oem belt is made by Gates Unitta, Mitsuboshi belt comes with aisin kit. Timing belts are inexpensive, so not using OEM seems like a case of spoiling a sheep for a ha'p'orth of tar.
It could be a genuine item in different packaging minus the OEM Added Tax, but it's not worth the risk.
Same with oil filters.

I agree with the consensus here. I never buy from Ebay. Just don't do it. Is it the end of the world, even if it is fake? No, But the timing belt, water pump, along with the tensioners and seals, etc. take a bit of time to install, so most of your cost will be labor. The parts are the inexpensive part. So, I wouldn't try to save a tiny bit on that.
