So, 07 RL, got one pink light... so time to replace both bulbs


I am going to buy from retrofit, but wanted your opinion, maybe a top 3 to buy... under 200


I know osram was said to be good?


Just wanted the opinion of you guys who have bought the products...


Also, our stock is 4300K? Looks whiter in person than the 4300K pictures I see online....


Should I stick with 4300k or should I go to 5k...

the stock bulbs are made by Osram.
the industry standard is the Phillips 85122.
then Osram one upped Phillips by making the CBI's.

so, you can either get the original stock Osrams, or if you want an upgrade, get the Phillips 85122.
I've heard the CBI's are great but lacking in color.

and yes, stock is generally 4300 Kelvin.
it will be your choice if you want to remain at stock color or move up to a whiter color, 5000 Kelvin.

basically, its your freaking choice and you dont need us.

but you will have to choose based off budget and features..

so, if you like a certain bulb brand that fits your budget, buy it! then you will know for next time, whether or not you still want to keep buying that same brand or to move on to something else

 

So Phillips is better than stock, and CBI is better than Phillips?


does anyone have a pic of 4300k vs 5000k in our cars?

 

plus, www.theretrofitsource.com gives great descriptions of the features of each bulb.

and would rely on that, instead of personal subjective opinions.

 

Osram makes your stock bulbs.(not sure of model #)
then, Phillips came out with a brand new bulb called the 81522's.
this phillip bulb became the industry standard because it was so good.
then, Osram one upped the phillips 85122 by making the CBI's. (it's supposed to be better, but real life opinions say that the color isnt as great)

i feel like a broken record. lol

 

not to sure whats so hard about reading the features of each bulb and deciding which one is right for you.

but i prefer the 4300K in my TL.

That nonsense doesn't happen in the retirement home.

 

oops, my knowledge for other acura's dont hold water here.
third gen TL's and 2nd gen TSX's came with Osram bulbs.
I did notice the RL uses D2S bulbs just like us tho.

now to try and figure out how to remove the bumper (JUST KIDDING) LOL

 

In case you aren't kidding, I did a little write up on it. Search "front bumper removal" in the "search this forum" bar. Although, the bumper is probably the most work to get to the bulbs.

 

Well, I DIDNT take the bumper off... but here is my 2 cents...


Passenger side WAY easier....
Remove the plastic cowel on side, take top of windshield washer fluid reservoir off (just pops off)


Spin the cap off, I used a screwdriver, it doesn't "screw out" it has little tabs, so it moves like 1/4 turn each way...


Pull that off, then youll see the silver ignitor? Twist that a quarter turn, and TRY to move it out of the way, it doesn't go very far....


The Clips on the bulb sound worse than they are, yes its a V shape, but once you feel it, youll know what to do... Reach in, and pull each side of the clip out and TOWARDS the engine, and it will drop down...


Now, pull out the bulb, and try to take note of how it went in, if not, its still not to bad...


When you insert the new bulb, the little gap goes at the 12 o'clock position, so straight up and down, on the TOP....


Once bulb is in, maneuver the little clips back onto the bulb until they sit on each side and fit in tight...


Put silver ignitor on, and twist to secure..


Than good luck with the damn cap, that took me the longest...


Their is a little tab at the bottom of this cap, that goes at the bottom of the assembly, get that in their and just twist 1/4 turn to tighten... AND DONE with Passenger side




The drivers side.... Eghhhhh


Ok so battery cover off, small cowel on side of bumber off...


Now, Move battery to the side as much as you can, and don't drop the rods that hold the cover in place like I did LOL...


I was able to reach into the corner, and do the same procedure as the passenfer side, but this time your doing it blind... It was FASTER on this side, only because I knew what to feel for from doing the passenger side....


PLEASE don't pay a stealership, this was definetly a DIY job...

The bulbs I removed were osram Part # 66040

 

This I ran the CBI's and I personally liked them

EDIT: The key thing with any bulb you choose ultimately is to get it from a reputable seller that isn't selling you some garbage bulb that will damage your projector bowl (read NO EBAY BULBS) TRS is running a sale with 15% off everything today only. The coupon is 15Friday

First impression, they don't seem as "bright", but isn't their a "break in " period for HID's?

 

You say they don't appear as bright. Are you sure they are the same wattage? You might have traded something for something. You might have gotten the brighter color temperature bulb but to keep things equal they might have less watts output. This might be so they don't appear to the oncoming drivers they are on high beam.

When I had my CRXSi I put in higher temperature bulbs and they appeared to be much brighter than the stock. People were always flashing their lights at me thinking I had them on high beam.

 

I don't have data to back it up, but I believe there is a break-in period. The CBIs are one of the best bulbs on the market, so give it some time.

 

You are correct, they are VERY bright now LOL.....

mrm143, how does your CBIs 5000K compare to the stock 4300k ?
Are they brighter and whiter ?
Do you feel that night driving has become more clear ?
Mine are app 4 years old and i am planning to install the CBIs 5000k before my 4300k starts flickering

 

They are both brighter (more lumens) and whiter (higher Kelvin temperature).

 

At first they didn't seem as bright, but after about a week, they seemed to have "broken in" and I love them, Brighter, and whiter

 

Dealer installed my CBIs 2 years ago and these are really bright and natural color.
Way better than stock and do recommend these HIDs.

 

I got CBI on the RL and CBB on my TL, the CBI really bring out the projector quality in the RL tho.
