Driver HID Question

When I do a search, I have found plenty of flickering bulb issues, but not this particular one.

The other night we did a hour plus drive, and I dropped my wife off at her car so she could drive it home. She noticed the driver side HID was out. Crap, figured I needed a new bulb. Did not notice any pinkness before hand or flickering, except on rare occasion, hitting a big pot hole at night, the driver side might flicker once, but I have not seen this behavior in over a year.

So I get home and turn the lights off, then turn them on again, and the driver's side seems to work fine. I back up to shine on the garage door to see if there is any pink, none. Lights continue work fine. Can't figure it out.

Is this just a bulb going bad, and time for a "trip" to Amazon for a pair of D2S?

If a bulb, Phillips or Sylvania?

I just want stock 4300K, nothing higher. What is the experience? We always get the opinion on what to buy now, but not what is happening a six months or a year later!

Thanks

FWIW - mine never went pink, but did flicker before going out. The flicker was intermittent over about a 4-5 month period. It would work on occassion after going dark more than just a flicker.

I'm sorry but nobody should be paying $150 for bulbs, it just doesn't make sense.

Here is a link to an amazon seller I've had good experience with, the colors actually match the description and I have my brother as well as friends using these.

Did I mention it's under $20?

Just search for D2S hid and on the left side pick the seller "DPT Motorsports", can't link to them directly for some reason.

If you know anything about HID lighting it really matters on quality of the bulbs to give the proper amount of light. Ive been in modifying and retrofitting HID's for over 10 years ive seen all kinds of cheap bulbs and ballast, projectors etc. it all comes down to the quality of the components.

Buy a quality bulb that delivers its rated lumens through its whole life once, or buy a crappy bulb over and over that will give good results for a short amount of time and watch as the output fades as the bulb begins to fail

don't assume the "other" person hasn't been using HIDs for as long as you have had.

Also, as competition increases, price is not the only thing companies fight for. The product is wide spread enough to drive the prices down, and the quality is good. Which is why I referred to a vendor I have used on more than one occasion.

In other words, cool story bro.

So much for going for the Philips sold on Amazon, delivered Prime....how does one distinguish counterfeits?

Thanks for all the advice to date!

My driver's side flickered a few times. I ended up just running a red light and t-boning a Tundra. Didnt flicker again after that.

how to tell fakes

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/warning-fake-phillips-bulbs-ebay-amazon-877372/

if you go to the link i originally sent you they also sell Phillips 85122+ they are legit.

just be careful cheap bulbs can burn hotter when ignited and over time will tarnish the reflector bowl in the projector limiting output.

Bot Phillips D2S off eBay - $75 for two including shipping. Replaced flickering HIDs about a year ago. Been perfect since that time. Feels like the color of the new HIDs has gotten slightly whiter over the last year, which is what I expected could happen anyway. Satisfied.

I have the Sylvania's book marked, but not a flicker since, and definitely no failed driver side. I must have hit one nasty bump on the 95 and it went out, but been OK ever since?!
