Doors not unlocking
2005 original owner
I have car set to unlock doors when put in park and turn off.
Now, it is not unlocking the doors intermittently - guessing about 1/3 of the time.
I have checked all the usual, i.e., FOB paired correctly, battery is good (both FOB and Car), etc.
Is this a forerunner of some other problem? Seems odd that it is intermittent

Handles are a common issue on 2005s that cause locking and alarm problems. Search it with advanced search. It's been documented here.

You mean when you put it in park?

Mine did this before i bought it too - dealer had to fix it, check out TSB 06-047: (2005-2006 RL) Auto Door Unlock/Lock Does Not Work When Shifting To/From Park
2006 is cheaper to fix than 2005, 2005 has to have the whole fuse panel replaced and some position sensors - i think the total bill (which I didn't have to pay) was about $500 to repair.

Can't TSBs be written off by the Service Manager? You may have to sweet talk him, but I have heard of people getting repairs done for free on things the factory knew was a defect.

So I'm wondering why you have the doors locked while you're driving. Lotta car jacking where you live??
Can't having the doors locked in a crash make it impossible for you to get out? Most door systems today stay closed in a crash to keep you in.

I've used the automatic door lock since owning the car. Keeps kids from opening doors and adds safety to accidents where impact forces have been known to overcome the door latches causing doors to open. I wouldn't worry about being "locked in" after an accident. With the equipment they have today they can peel open a car like a sardine can.

I wasn't aware you could turn off the auto-lock.

007, you can, it's somewhere in the auto lock settings in the MID. In my case, the door locks worked fine when this setting was off, but when it was on, the doors would lock randomly while i was driving - that's why I wanted it fixed!
I guess i could have turned it off and not have worried about it, but I felt like it should work as designed

I had the same problem. They had to replace the transmission range switch and drivers side fuse panel at a cost of $722.01, if I had paid for it. (Coverered under my 05s CPO.) I think you can have it repaired under the goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your zone office. This is a common problem.

I'm only aware of the ability to turn the auto-UN-lock off.

Now I'm thinking it might be a timing issue. Today it happened (doors did not unlock) when I turned the key off very quickly after putting in park. I guess I'm getting faster in my old age.

The car should unlock in sync with the shifter going into park. I think you could even slightly push the park position threshold, and the switch would happen even if you went back to reverse. Timing should have no bearing on the occurrence.

Fixed by changing the setting.
Replying to an old thread here, but I fixed the issue by changing the setting to unlock the doors when the car is turned off instead of when put in park. Works flawlessly now.
