door courtesy lights go off on 2nd gen rl

hey guys i just got my 2nd gen rl and i change most bulbs to leds and everything worked fine until the next day i got in my car, and i noticed the my door courtesy lights didnt go off, i called my advisor at acura because he has an rl and thought he would know, but he doesnt, soo i tried to figure it out myself, i changed the bulbs back to stock and still nothing, and oh let me mention this is only on the driver side, passanger side turns off when doors are closed, and there is no error on the dash nor does it show if a door is opened, i then went to the fuse pulled it out and put a new one in, nothing. so im wondering to those who have taken the door panels off,is there a fuse for the door courtesy lights? for now what i have done is remove only the driver front and rears light off, so it looks dark then it should. please help.

More periods would help us to understand you better. Did the lights turn off when you pulled the fuse? When you put the incandescents back in, did they still not turn off?

Maybe I am, and maybe they were out of those cute little black Kotex boxes!

The guy used seven sentences before his first period. It was obviously too confusing for you because he stated that the car does not recognize the door being open which would be the case if it were the sensor. All I stated was that it helps to be clear if you are looking for help.

theNHBRL, after re-reading your post, it sounds like a relay to me since the other doors turn off. Still, answering my other questions will help to debug the problem.

hey guys its cool, i know some ppl may come off as rude, but if your not yelling or making everything with caps, i wont take it offensively.how would comas work well to clarify, when i took out the fuse the leds and regular bulbs turned off, and so as you guys think it may be a relay, where would i find it, behind the door panel or somewhere else? and there is no indication of any door open to clarify that. have you guys taken off the door panel?

and once again sorry for cramping everything up with out periods!!! lol....

Hahaha, no worries man. rtr and I have our own issues that you should not get bothered by. We'll both continue posting here, and most of the time it will be civil.

I am 99% sure your problem is not in your door panel. There is a service manual in the Garage (the second thread on the main 2G RL page). Within that link, on pg 4, there is a PDF called "wiring diagram". If you know how to follow a schematic, you can use that to find your relay. I will take some time tomorrow to look at it as well.

so i have been try to get sometime to figure this out, but because of work and school is delaying i think i might take to the dealer. unless someone has found it and tell me that it will only take no more than .5 hrs, then ill do it. now i took out the bulbs because i didnt want battery to die, i tried putting them in now and nor front nor rear will turn on with the door open only passenger side works.

so i went to the dealer think my friend can hook me up and get a diagnostics on my car, but he said that with the new manager that have to charge everyone now. i thought my warranty will cover it but doesn't. so i was thinking of getting CarMD. its a diagnostics pc check for cars.

would you guys thinks its worth it? its $100 and would always be free to do a diagnostics on my car. Acura charges $116 ea time.

http://www.carmd.com/

i need to find out whats going on with the doors, still haven't figured it out. i took of the door panal and nothing.

also i took out bulbs because didnt want to kill battery and now that i put them back in the driver rear wont turn on only the driver door turns on.

oo7spy have you found the diagram?

How would carMD work if you haven't thrown a code?

When I put in aftermarket LEDs they did stay on longer but eventually went out.
I also remember I had to adjust the little pins on the connector because they weren't seated right and from closing the door would lose connection.
Lastly, make sure your lights are on, if I remember correctly the courtesy lights only work on all doors if its night time. (maybe, not 100% on that)

Honestly, with your lack of time and limited knowledge of the system its probably better to have someone look at it for you.

The coutesy lights will come on for day or night, but you may have to have the interior setting on "door".

NHB, I have not looked yet, but will try today.

EDIT: Well, your problem doesn't seem very straight forward at all. The driver's door and back door are run off of their own systems. You can find the rear door diagram on page 52 of the wiring diagram and the front door on page 51. There seems to be a microprocessor in the drivers door controlling the light, and circuit on the back door window switch controls the back light. There are too many things for me to start a debug over the internet. I suggest buying new doors.

dam buying new doors. thats no good.

And all door on is on. like i said before passanger worked fine with leds. just driver side went haywire. i will get a video to help explain a little more. and i was just suggesting the carmd for anything. maybe that would through a code meaning a flash is out or something.

i will look more into this.

CarMD is cool if you can decipher the codes, i.e. look them up on line.

Things like that pull general codes and often dont offer diagnostics like the more expensive models do... its basically the same thing you get for free at AutoZone.
