Documentation Fee

Documentation Fee
I traded my 04TL for and 05RL on February 12th at an Acura dealer out-of-state. I did not receive all my papers so I could register the car until February 28th. I've traded cars numerous times and have never had to wait this long on papers.
Anyway, when I received the papers I noticed that had added the $219 documentation fee. I specified that when I made the trade offer that it was to include everything except the sales tax, and specifically mentioned the doc fee. I didn't even realize the doc fee was added until the County Clerk said I owed another $21 in sales tax. I should have checked to total more carefully when I signed the deal, but the doc fee was 'x-ed' out and then added back in.
I don't guess $219 is much on a $50K car, but dealer doc fees are a sore spot with me. I don't care what a dealer charges for a doc fee, as long as it is included in the amount I offer to trade for. They use it as a means to get additional revenue. I have contacted the dealer concerning this. They said they would check in to it, but I have not yet received an answer.

Do you have a copy of the original documents you signed when you bought the car? If so, then no problem. Just make them refund the amount. If you didn't get a copy then contact the finance guy and work it out. If all else fails after working with the dealership, then contact Acura and file a greivance about your purchase. Also you can request to rate your overall buying experience again. They will send you a questionaire again. This will make them stand up and take notice. Acura wants to score highly to reflect the overall experience.

Rob,
I thought I said that. Only I said it in the politically correct manner huh?
