Dingy Day Time Running Lights

So I was looking at the reflection of my car in a gas station window today and just couldn't get over how bad a$$ my 05 RL looks...EXCEPT for the ugly yellow daytime running lights.

Has anyone replaced these with HID or PIAA superwhite bulbs or anything of the like?

What is the bulb number of the daytime running lights? I would like to stop in my local car parts store and at least get some lights that don't look quite as dingy...

Let me make sure understand...so in your 09, the projector bulbs are the HIDs that come on when you turn your headlights on, and the lights closest to the grille are the DRLs?

Gotta be honest, the DRLs in your first picture don't really look much differnt that stock...then in your last picture, they're clearly HID - is that because the DRL and the High Beam are 2 different lights/bulbs?

far left and far light are stock projector low beams, middle one's are DRL/HIGH beams, same bulb for both.

with HID you lose DRL.

As far as PIAAs, they are brighter than stock, but insivible compared to HIDs.

Gotcha...that's a nice upgrade you've made. I'd be happy to trade my DRLs for HID.

To be honest, I'm looking to take the easy route and just get some colored bulbs (fast & cheap when compared with doing an HID setup) I'm even willing to sacrifice the brightness of the DRLs just for something that looks more sleek & aggressive than those dingy yellow DRLs...

The 05-08 RL's DRLs are 9005, correct?

There is no easy solution for "white" DRLs using incandescent bulbs. While there is no national wattage standard that I know of for DRLs, the Acura solution, like many manufacturers, is to run high beams at a reduced wattage, say 50%. So basically you are running your incandescent bulbs on a dimmer. They will never burn with the claimed/designed color intensity on such low power and will always look "dingy" as you say.

And outright color changes such as to a JDM yellow are quite illegal, because they are also your high beams.

I agree that DRL's are for old people.

They are to make it less likely for Granny to pull out in front of you because she didn't see you coming.

I don't like the color, but I'll leave mine in.a

Condemning your own future...pure genius.

Safety is so uncoooool.

If DRLs are such a waste, why is everyone got such a hard on for Audi-like DRLs? Some RLs owners have even made mods to mimic them.

I drive with my low beams on since I got HIDs in my DRLs.

Anyone who drives without any sort of lights on is a dumb @$$ from my perspective.

Safety comes first.

I hated the DRL's at first, but I can deal with it to ensure I'm seen by others. Mine are dingy yellow, until I toggle on the high beams to release the HIR upgrade bulb power and illuminate the world.

The other night, I had an oncoming car with HID high beams, freaking searing my retinas. I saw two cars ahead of me flicker him with their highs. When he got past them, just flopped my high beams on. They lit him up so bright I could see him through the windshield, past his own lights, as he switched his off. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.... and mine are all halogen yellow even.

You'll get a DRL out light on the dashboard without resistor. Also DRL run at 6V (half voltage) so unless you use a relay and resistor, you won't get full 12V and brightness. Also what do you mean by wattage.?? I haven't seen different wattage LED bulbs, perhaps you mean Lumens?

the driver's side, it's probably possible without removing the battery, but I took removed it to make it easier, but the passenger side was super super easy once you remove the plastic cover that is held on by those pop clips

i didn't do the fogs, but I would think you'd be able to access them from the bottom without removing bumper

The fog lights are do-able without removing the bumper. It's just a matter of removing the front part of black liner under the car and voila.

Thanks

^^^ I'd be interested in durability. Anyone have these with more than 2 years on the clock?

For $30 plus some of my mechanics time next time I take it in for service, seems like a nice upgrade in looks and illumination.
