Debating on buying a 2005 RL

I have two choices - both 2005

1. with 34k miles for $23k or
2. with 74k miles for $17k

I am not sure what the cost of ownership for a 2005 TL is. I did find some numbers on google. I am leaning on the one with 74k miles due to the 6 grand i can save. Is the low miles really worth it on the other one. I am not able to make up my mind. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kumar

I would personally buy the one with 74K miles. Cheaper to buy, and 74K miles on a 3 year old car; it's probably mostly hwy miles anyway. I'd rather save the $$$.

Just my

I would look more at condition than anything else....if the higher mileage one is in better shape, you can surmise it was probably better kept mechanically too. I would look at condition more than the mileage.

If condition is neglible between the two, than drive each one and see if you can tell a difference. How many miles a year do you drive. The drivetrain on these cars will last 200k easy with proper care.

Thank you Chris. The condition is comparable between the two. They both drive the same. The one with 74k miles will need new tires though asap which would be mean $1200 immediately out of the pocket. I hear the tires are very expensive on the rl.

If possible look into an extended warranty. Parts are expensive and the RL is complicated. Not saying it is unreliable, just that one failure can pay for the warranty in one shot.

x2 my dads got an '05 rl which has had both doors repainted because of oxidized paint. didn't pay a penny for any of the work b/c of the warrenty.

Congrats on your choice! I would've gone with the one with fewer miles, but I understand the need to save $$$ in this economy. We've got at least one guy on this site who's got 200k on his RL with VERY few problems, so a car with that mileage is not a big deal.

+3 on the extended warranty, though, because of the electonics.

Yes, but I'm mostly on S2KI. And about the S....you'll be back. That is one addicting little car. I see you're jonesing for it already.
