Dealership is replacing my steering column
Dealership is replacing my steering column
2006 RL (Tech Package - PAX, CMBS, ACC)
29,000 miles
Had a "clunking" sound when going over bumps or sometimes while taking turns on an incline/decline. I originally thought, as did the dealership upon their first inspection, that it was a bad control arm. However, after replacing the one control arm that they found to be defective, the clunk was still there on the mechanic's test drive. They looked again and determined it was a bad bushing on the steering column. Apparently the bushing itself cannot be purchased separately, so they ordered an entire new steering column with rush delivery. The tech and the service manager said they've seen this exact problem with 3 or 4 other RLs so, if you are having these symptoms, it might be good to mention this to the service department. Hope that helps.
P.s. As a first time Acura owner (coming from BMWs and Audis), I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with the level of service and professionalism I've received so far from my dealership. Much different from what I'm used to.

I just got my RL back for fixing "clicking" noise around steering column. It only happened when I tried to turn the wheel from dead center to 45 degree or so. Dealership changed a few parts in & around steering column and the noise seems gone for now.
Although I had to make more than one visit to address the same issue, the service at this dealership has exceeded my expectation.
06 RL, Nav, 20k miles.

I have an '05 with 62000 miles. The car is out of warranty. I had the "clicking noise" when I steer on slow speeds. Acura dealer is replacing the steering column to fix this. I had originally taken the car to get the catalytic converter fixed (emission parts are still under warranty after factory warranty expires).
I am really impressed with customer service of Acura. They look care of the catalytic converter and the steering column and I have to pay nothing.
Really Impressed.

I believe I have a similar problem, but only after the car is warmed up a bit. If I turn into and out of driveways I hear a rattly sort of clunking sound, as well as slow speeds on bumpy roads.
At what speeds did you experience this clunking sound?
How did they diagnose it was the bushing? My car is going in tomorrow for this, but I've had a hard time getting the problem to be heard at the dealer.

Rob

I now have a new steering column. I brought the car in last Thursday and within a minute of letting the tech drive the car, he heard the noise and knew just what the problem was and the solution. Apparently, it also happens on the TL.
I left the car overnight, they ordered the part and had the car back by Friday. Other than the drive home, I haven't had a chance to drive it. In that short drive, however, the sound appears to be gone.

I have this on my TL. Been trying to solve this minor annoyance for months and I think this is finally the solution. Have alrdy replaced all suspension bushings, end links, inner and outer tie rods

This is the first time I recall reading of the problem here. Thanks for the input.
