dealer price is...

$1,300 for timing belt.wter pump, spark plug, dry belts and raditor fluid and a free loaner car to drive. I think this is good due to 12mos, 12miles warranty. my 2005 RL runs great but this price is going to hurt me... i go to Avon acura dealer. they are good people. is this a good price??

That seems to be a relatively normal price for an area like Washington DC. The radiator fluid is Honda Type 2 five year fluid, so since they are changing the pump any way, not a bad idea. Does any one know if there is also an idler pulley that should be changed like on the C series engines (2G Legend, 1G RL?)...because if it goes out, you have to take it all down to the timing belt again...at least on the C series engine. I think a timing belt, pump and pulley was running about 1100 a couple of years ago, 900 at an independent shop, but that did not include the other accessory belts.

That's a reasonable price. I'd do it if your RL has enough miles that you have to consider it. It'll last a lot longer that way.....

It's always a tough thing to swallow, cost wise, once your car hits the 100k mark and needs some good servicing. However, if you plan on holding onto the car for a while longer, it'll make sure it stays running well.. and at least it's the only major servicing you'll ever really need, hopefully.

And at least you can have fun with a "free" new car for a day or two.. really drive that thing hard, I always do.

Pricing looks fair enough. Off course not a lot of 2g RL have this service done yet, so it is hard to get a good feeling of how cheap it can be done.

Just as an FYI for my 1G Acura of AVON quoted $1150. I had it done at my local garage for $950 but they found that the Cam sensor was partially melted so I had to buy the part from $200 and ended up paying the same price.

Edit: It was $1150 for timig belt/waterpump. The plugs were $150 extra. so it seems they quoted you the same price as an 1G RL 90/105K service combined.

One thing you can try is find a good garage that will let you supply the parts and just charge you the labor listed for each part. Water pump and timing belt can take a few hours to change, but plugs is less than an hour and each plug is about $6-7.

I'm not sure if I am missing something here, but why aren't you changing the radiator fluid yourself. It should be easier than changing your oil and it probably costs less than $20.
