Current RL Owners- What's the next logical replacement?
Why can't Acura truly update the RL. Hyundai is now offering a 5.0l 420+ hp high performance version of the v8 with direct injection. In addition the v6 is going to have over 330 hp, with a 8 speed auto standard. Acura has so lost their way, yet if they would only pay some attention to the members of this forum and others they could greatly increase sales. I would love a new RL if it would be on par with a Genesis or M37x

Although the Equus received a GOOD rating from the IIHS, I read recently (not sure where) the Equus was at the high end of insurance rates. Just something to consider.
For me, nothing really justifies writing a check to replace my RL. I don't find anything out there right now that is much more than what I have already. Especially considering the differential of a $50K+ replacement to my RL which has been paid for over 3 years now.
That said, the Audi A6 Prestige (with an extended warranty) is closest to tempting me from my RL. It is a good thing I absolutely HATE the pop up NAVI screens....it just seems like an afterthought and awkward to the interior design.
Unless the new RL(X) wows me, or something in the pipeline of new vehicles gets my eye, I expect I will be keeping my RL and finding a second vehichle in the garage to satisfy my new car itch.

Audi A7 or S7 look attractive - but used with a CPO warranty probably. Maybe a 2nd model year RLX if the looks grow on me over time. But the faithful old 06RL runs great and my extended warranty runs through early 2014 so nothing to do near term.
I recently went through this process and decided to re-up and get back into an '07 RL Tech package. While most of the technology is no longer as advanced as when introduced seven years ago, I still love the design, composure, handling, etc.
I am fortunate that I have an older 911 for fun, and a newer Lexus RX for a family hauler (although with the kids now in college, this is less of a requirement).
The RLX doesn't get me too excited, especially since I would wait to let the first year model sort itself out. The Genesis is a nice car, but the used price point didn't come close to the RL.
So, for me, it was the best balance of price, performance and panache.

This question is puzzling me.
I don't know what to go for. Germans are excluded from my list due to their quality is getting poorer and poorer. Acura does not exist in UK, unfortunately. Infinity just started and does not have enough dealerships yet. Therefore only Lexus left as an option. RX looks good, but they have this bloody hybrid inbuilt, which I do not like and not in favour to pay extra few thousand for this. So, I do not know yet....... I wish Honda will reconsider and bring Acura to UK sometime. They were about to do it in 2008 or 2009, then something went wrong.

Honestly I think pretty loaded honda civic (possibly certified) will be in order on my end
... relax, there is another 3 full years before my warranty expires plus I will be driving it after that too
...
In 5 years I predict that gas price will be closer to $6/gal where it is 4.10$ in my area - once that happens, civic will be very appealing to me

It would be pretty tough to compete with the all-round nature of the RL. It's really the whole package: Looks great outside and in, hauls people if needed, fast when needed, great handling when needed, AWD makes the car great in winter - and on top of it all, high quality and strong reliability! What other car can boast all of these? Maybe the Panamera?
I've driven the Genesis. Still feels like a "wanna be" car from the thin doors and seats to the copy-cat everything on the interior. Bluetooth and some controls very funky.
Driving a 2012 C250 now as a loaner for last 3 weeks...I'd never own this thing. TSX is a better ride and car. It's like a German Ford Focus.
While I enjoy my RL I'd look at the new Lexsus GS350 Sport F
http://www.newcars.com/lexus/gs350
(check out the interior and the front end. It's what the RL-X should be.)
Or the Jag XF (gotta be pre-owned though)
http://www.newcars.com/jaguar/xf
(Incredible design, great interior, tech and easy drive. reliability is lacking)
I also don't mind the Volkswagon CC if anyone has driven it. It really is a good car. Great interiror, tech and quick. Takes it's cue from the CLK500.

The next generation Phaeton returns in 2015. I liked the last one. I guess I am drawn to understated, tailored, well equipped underdogs.
I was actually looking at current Phaeton, two years ago, before picking the Legend. Good car, can't recall any dislikes about it. But people were saying, that reliability not very good.
There's a brand new decent looking Honda I would like:

I'm comparing directly with the RL. The problem is, to get a comparably equipped AWD BMW 535ix or E350 4matic= thousands more than a new RL. Only the Genny fits the bill even though it doesn't offer AWD yet.
V is in a different class of pure excess.

It still seems like it could be a logical step though. I don't think you have to remain in the class, but rather pick something logical. I think a CTS-V is closer to the RL class than the E-class is.

The Lexus GS350 F Sport matches but also is about $7-10K more with AWD. But nothing comes close to the CTS-V 556hp

I actually saw one of those on the road just the other day & I liked it as well. I'm glad to see it's coming back & wonder if it will still have a W12 engine.. +1 on the underdogs comment haha..
With only 77K on my '07 RL Tech, I plan to wait for the 3rdGen RL.
The Hybrid drivetrain looks to be a home run. The looks are ho-hum, but I am in a place where I rather drive solid, good performing vehicles than something flashy.
That said, I'm drooling over getting a 2015 NSX

I will pickup my 52k Equus tomorrow and I will post my opinions....I twst drove both the genesis 5.0 r spec and the Equus....about 12k difference in price and I do think the Equus is worth the premium price. I test drove the new GS.....overpriced for what it is, but much nicer then the Genesis. My real choice.... Equus or LS (and an extra 20k)...I'll take my chances.....no trade of my factory new condition RL with 72k miles on....am selling to daughter for 14k...well less than resale
Call me old, call me insane for this idea...
But my next car will be different from the RL. I will keep my RL until it dies.
But my next car will be a 2008 - 2010 Mercedes S Class. I've driven one and i love all the toys it has inside. i haven't done much research on it but when the time is right i will...
