Closing the drivers door opens the trunk?
I have noticed an intermitten problem when I close the driver door, sometimes the trunk opens. A few times, I would close the door and the lock buttons wouldn't work, so I figured they were being finicky. Then when getting back into the care noticed the Trunk Open on the display, thinking maybe I brushed it with my leg or something. After repeating this pattern a couple times, I put two and two together.
I imagine something in the trunk release button is loose or malfunctioning, and since it happens infrequently, would not be worth the money to repair it. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue?

If the second fob is in the trunk, your symptoms would also happen

I was only given one FOB by the dealer at purchase. If the second one happened to be in the trunk, would the problem be intermitten or happen regularly?
I havent really gone thru the trunk since I bought the car, so it could very well be hidden in there, but I would think the issue would be more consistent?

If 2nd FOB was in trunk, it should not be intermittent, i.e., should happen all the time as you say.
That said, might be intermittent if 2nd fob has weak battery.

Take Fob1 away and try to start the car. If it starts, Fob2 is there. If it doesn't it may not be. It is possible that Fob2 is just on the edge of the trunk sensor's range and only sometimes is detected. It is also possible that it is too far away from the dash to start the car though.

If the fob was in the trunk, you would hear an audible alarm when you close the trunk, followed by the trunk popping open.
What year is your RL? What type of trunk release button do you have on the trunk...a lever or nipple?
I remember reading some early 05-06 RLs had an issue with the trunk release button, causing a parasitic draw and / or short. Perhaps that is part of your issue?

I have an 06 with the nipple release.
I may not have worded the OP correctly. I have not seen or heard the trunk open after closing the driver side door, basically the doors wouldn't lock after exiting the car, and then upon getting back in the trunk open light was on.
There is no audible noise similar to walking away from the car running with the key in my pocket.
I will check the trunk when I get out of work, and it could very well be user error, but figured I'd run it past the vets.
Always appreciate everyones time and assistance. This community is great and makes owning the car that much better.
Will be sure to update the post...stay tuned.

Hmmm, the trunk definetly makes a noise if the FOB is in there.
I would try to start the car with out the FOB with you just to rule that out.
But it sounds like a short in the switch or something hitting the button.
You dont wear skinny jeans do you?!!

In terms of making a noise, I just recall a fairly low level beep when trunk is closed with fob in it. No real alarm. In fact, when it happened to me (wife's fob was in purse in trunk), I did not really notice the beep, but was alerted by the trunk open on the MID.
Not sure car would start with fob in trunk. Has anyone tried that?

My RL sounds rapid succession beeps if I close the trunk with the fob inside. It is the same beeps / alarm that sounds if I get out of the car while engine is on and walk away from the car. Perhaps it is slightly different from 2005 to 2006 models?

I do know that it took me several times of closing the trunk to figure out that fob was in the trunk. Hasn't happened again because wife lost her fob

Update on this thread: no second FOB found in the trunk. The external trunk release button doesn't open without the primary FOB within proximity, nor does the ignition turn.
Chalk this up to either user error accidentally hitting the trunk release nipple, or a loose wire within the door panel.
Should it occur more frequently, and I have it diagnosed I will update the thread with the outcome.

Leaving work on Thursday I got the trunk open warning on the MID. The trunk had not been opened for a few days so it was a surprise to see that. The car was locked, and I had to unlock it to get in so that ruled out a lot of what ifs. It hasn't happened before or since so not much of a concern but still makes me wonder what caused it.
