Closing Deal 06 RL Tomorrow.

Hello Guys,

I will be closing a deal on a 2006 RL certified from an Acura Dealership with 38,776 miles. It has the real spoiler. I offered them $23500,000 and it was accepted was that a good price.

Congrats!

Prices vary by market area. But that sounds like a very good price for a low mileage CPO 06 RL. You don't say much about the condition it is in, but CPOs are usually cosmetically sound.

Still, do your research out here for TSBs. Even CPOs can skip over some items. Not many issues with the 06+ RLs, but make use of the CPO warranty and get anything out of sorts corrected.

You will have a wonderful ride.

Tampa, Do you know why some Rl have the shark fin on the roof and others dont. I notice some of the 07 have and some dont.

There are a couple of threads out here over that dilemma....

If I remember correctly, 07 was the first year Acura dropped ONSTAR from the RL. In 05 & 06 the shark fin housed the ONSTAR antenna.

Then during 07 production, the XM system received a revised antenna that was 2 piece. One antenna was in the rear window, near the 3rd brake light (as on 05 & 06 RLs), and a second antenna was added. This was to aide XM reception in cities that used signal repeaters to prevent satellite signals being shielded from buildings, structures and bridges. So the shark fin returned...now to house the secondary XM antenna.

In 07 it was confusing as some 07s had no shark fin and some did. Apparently during the production of the 07s the secondary XM antenna came online and the shark fin.....resurfaced.

Enjoy your RL! I also have an 06 RL CMBS. Got it CPO March 2008 with 4k miles. Now have 91k!

It is great car. Only issue I had was last month the driveshaft was replaced under the CPO 100k mile drivetrain warranty for bearing whine. Just watch out for this issue which happens as the car ages in cold weather.

I had the Pax tire system removed by the dealer when I got mine and at 65k replaced the OEM Michelins (that the dealer took off a brand new RL when I purchased mine) with Michelin Pilot Sport PLUS A/S. 10% mpg penalty, but appreciable traction improvement in wet and snow.

I do pay for the OnStar system and since I travel long distances the instant local weather and traffic reports are useful. XM is great too.

For a technologically advanced luxury car, the RL is probably the least expensive one to own relative to its' peers and arguably one of the most reliable. Not a very engaging "drivers car", but an extremely competent, well appointed, technologically advanced, very well engineered, and very well built car that is exceptionally durable and enjoyable to own for many years.

Ed

Great price and great pickup. +1 on OnStar. Yes, it costs, but the safety features are great. I never had to use it on my RL, but I have used it once already on my CTS-V for a flat tire. Works like a charm and they get you hooked up with roadside service.

(Unfortunately, Acuras don't get the vehicle slowdown feature that the V gets--invaluable tool in a joyride magnet like my car....but Acuras do get vehicle tracking so if your car is stolen it can be tracked.)

Bob, does the V get run flats? Does it come with a spare or can of flat repair?

Just curious. I had looked at the std CTS about 2 years ago when the new body came out and it had std tires with an extra cost option for a spare and jack kit. The BMW 3 had NO spare tire and NO option for one (and no room for one).

How many miles on your V and how is it doing?

Tx

*beep*

ONSTAR: "Hello, this is ONSTAR, how can we be of assistance?"

Driver: "HELP! My Prius is racing OUT OF CONTROL at 120 mph!!!"

ONSTAR: "OH dear! That will raise your carbon footprint! We will activate the VEHICLE SLOWDOWN feature."
Driver: "Thank Goodness! Al Gore will be so pleased...."

And was it not Al Gore's son who was arrested awhile back for driving a Prius in excess of 100mph? Now we know WHY! He did not have ONSTAR!

Tampa RL: You have a future in stand-up comedy! (and God only know we can use some humor like this around here in Washington!).

Tx for the chuckle,

I've got 10k miles now and it'll be one year next month. I've had no significant issues.

The V has no runflats, no spare, and no room for a spare. Further, there is no aftermarket spare that has the load rating to support the V without sticking out of the faux spare tire space. We have an air pump and fix-a-flat fluid (which by the way didn't help as my tire was too damaged). WTF? OnStar is even more important in this car.

Honda isn't perfect either, but man is Toyota taking it in the nuts lately.

Is that an issue only with the '05's & '06's (from what I've previously heard) or an issue with '05's thru '08's altogether?

I am not sure, and relative to the age of the vehicle, if it is a multi-year issue I would think the older the MY the more common the issue.

06 Rl deal did not work out as planned! Guess i have to keep looking. Might just bump up the search to an 07. Since the 2.9-3.9% financing is going on until March 3rd.

I still cant get why some RL have Shark Fin on the roof. Some 07 Have it some dont? why is this. i like the idea of the Fin and would want to have this. Any one with a 07 care to respond??

Sorry the deal didn't work out. Everyone whiffs on a couple of deals before they find "the one" including myself.

I've had the most success on cars.com & autotrader.com actually & believe it or not, some ultra low mileage 2G RL's can still be had if you live close enough.

As for the shark fin on some '07's, I actually heard similar info to what Tampa RL posted previously on this thread & yes '06 RL's were the last MY's to have OnStar..

the shark fin was the antenna in the earlier years, but you can buy one for like 25 30 bucks and just stick it on there if you like it

I thought I was clear.

2005 & 2006: shark fin is the ONSTAR antenna.

2007: ONSTAR is dropped. Early 2007 RLs are produced without Shark Fin.

Then, DURING 2007 production, a second spatial antenna is added to the RL for XM reception. Acura decides to revive the shark fin and use it as the mounting location for the new second XM antenna.

Therefore there was a interim period in 2007 where some RLs were built with no ONSTAR and without the new XM secondary antenna. Those RLs built in that interim period have no shark fin.

Kabeesh?

I certainly am not. And I do not care what kind of short, tight and skimpy pants you wear Hawks! That is just NOT a mental image I want to have.

Actually, I believe Kabeesh refers to a monkey's prehensile tail???

Is it possible to activate the On Star System on a 06 RL? On board efforts are not working.
Thanks!

ONSTAR still supports 05 and 06 RLs. My account is active and I have made use of it.

Not sure what you mean by 'On board efforts are not working'?

Even if you do not have an active subscription, it should still activate a signal. Once connected to ONSTAR, the rep will likely state you do not have an active subscription. I believe they are required to accept emergency calls as does a non subscribed cell phone can dial 911.

If you get no connection from the ONSTAR keypad, try calling ONSTAR and they can check your signal. Perhaps the previous owner disabled the ONSTAR keypad???

I see.. I thought the early '07's had it & the later one's didn't for that reason..

It's confusing because I never saw a shark fin on any '08's (including my own). If what you say is true, did Acura once again decide to do something different for '08??

Then the shark fin reappears on the '09's once again lol..
