Cleaning wood trim

I've never owned a vehicle with wood trim. I've been using Pledge & Old English wipes on the RL's wood trip, but it's not coming out good. What's everyone else use on the wood trim?

I use a microfiber towel with a little warm watter. I think pledge and all those cleaners are not so good for it. They leave a greasy film. If I am washing the car I use the shammy and that works great. Safe and no chemicals. It looks like the wood is clear coated.

If that does not do it call Big Als tree service and ask for someone in maple care.

I use a little bit of Zaino Z-2 (yes, wax!) on the wood trim on my GX470, and it does a great job. It leaves the clear coat smooth and shiny. You just need to be careful not to get any on the surrounding areas.

yeah i'd say just use a microfiber cloth. Since the wood is covered in clearcoat you dont really need anything special to clean it sicne well, you arent cleaning the actual wood.

Thumbs up

I use Zaino on the wood as well. I used it on the wood in my Mercedes E420 for six years as well, and it kept it looking brand new.

I use Z8 (Grand Finale) on my wood in the RL. Why would you need to Z2 it when z8 works fine?

I use the Z8 most of the time, just for removing dust and fingerprints and such.

I just re-wax the wood interior with Z2 whenever I'm doing the whole exterior of the car. I don't really need to apply Z2 directly, I just use what's left on the wax applicator I used. It adds gloss, likely hides light scratches, possibly adds some UV protection to the wood, but above all, it just makes it more slick, easier to clean later.

Sure, it's overkill, since the wood isn't exposed to weather and such. However, I use Z2 (or RejeX) on just about anything and everything. I use it on exterior windows at home, patio furniture, the glossy paint on my gas grill, the cooktop surface of my kitchen stove and microwave, my granite countertops, my bathroom sinks and shower doors... A good car wax that doesn't leave much residue behind (like Zaino) can have a ton of uses... Keeps things cleaner in the short term, but can extend the life of products as well. For example, 2-3 coats of wax each year on the patio furniture has kept the paint from becoming oxidized and cloudy. Just be careful....waxing can be addicting...you'll want to wax anything with a glossy surface... I even discovered that Zaino can make your driver's license and credit cards look brand new (this was after my wallet got wet and the leather stuck to everything in my wallet, leaving black dye and residue on my license photo, magnetic strips on my credit cards...) Anyway, it's a versatile product!

Oh, waxing (even Zaino'ing) is so much work I doubt I'll get addicted to it
