Check Radiator System

Hello everyone
Back again with an issue

2007 RL
Getting the "check radiator system" message
Car doesn't seem to overheat, the fans do kick on, but not ALL the time, so its more of an intermittent issue

Car will overheat if it sits, if I turn it off and back on, sometimes fan will kick in and all is ok

Battery replaced less than a year ago

Checked 50a fuse on battery looks ok

Moved relays around, I believe it is the 2 light green ones under the hood?

What other things can I check

Thanks again

Can you confirm that both fans are running when the car is running and the a/c is switched on? If only the condenser fan is running,(the fan on the passenger side of the car) and not the radiator fan, then yes the car will start to overheat. Have seen several of these fan motors fail...what code is storing on the navi screen?

Its very intermittent it came on tonight on my way home... I got home and popped hood no fans running... I turned of the car and back on and within 3 minute's fans kicked on.. They then proceeded to cycle on and off every few mins....

Ac fan does come on with ac but again same thing it has stopped.... Very intermittent.

And yes their is coolant in the car lol

It seems like whatever is telling the fans to come in may be the issue? I have no idea seems weird

Navi gives same message if remember correctly and then the guy talks and says fans not running or running too much keep an eye on the coolant temp etc lol

Keep an eye on the temp gauge, start the car and turn the temp all the way down to low where those fans are going to stay running...inspect both fans to make sure they are spinning. It's hard to discern by just the noise of them, you may only be hearing one fan. Visually check or place both hands on either side of the radiator cowl and confirm your getting air pushing back from both sides. The radiator fan control unit may be going out...or possibly a bad fan motor. Usually when the fan starts to fail intermittently, it will be after it's been warmed up and running for awhile.

Also: pull that code by going into diag mode...with the car on or running...let the OK screen load, hold down the MENU, MAP/GUIDE, CANCEL buttons together and scroll down to XM HIP...hit enter, scroll down to XM ECU, hit enter and then scroll down to diagnostic data and enter...should be a 4 digit code stored starting with a P.

could be the thermostat. let the car run for 2-3 minutes enough to warm up the coolant. feel the upper and lower radiator hoses and see if there is a temperature difference. could be a sticking thermostat. also could be a failing coolant temperature sensor

Sounds like a flaky relay or switch.

honestly, if you cannot replicate it and there is no fluid leaks, no over heating, and the water pump, thermostat, and rad cap are all good.

Drive until it fails is the best way to trouble shoot it IMO

Like you said, you need to wait until it happens again. If the fans are running when it happens, that suggests it is either the thermostat or the water pump itself. If the fans don't run, switch or relay is the issue.

Sorry for bringing back to life an old topic, but i am experiencing a strange thing...with my a/c on only my passenger side fan comes on,works only for few seconds,it is very loud, then shuts down without completely to stop spinning, then comes back on again. The driver side fan is dead, never comes on under any surcumstances...yes,the radiator and container have coolant, the fuse on the battery is not blown, the car is not overheating and no malfunction message on MID.Please help, thanks.

Acura RL 2005 check radiator message.

My car was doing the same thing, I though the fans were running but it was just the air forcing them to move as I was driving.
Thank god for this thread. I just replaced the battery fuse and it's cold air for days now. No more message, no more overheating. I got my fuse at a autozone. It wasn't the same size, so I cut into the copper to deepen the holes, then bent it a little bit.
Been six months, works like a champ!
