Hello All,
I found out that the catalyst converter for my used 05 RL with 63000 miles is bad and I see a P0430 code and check engine light is on.

Now the car is out of warrenty but some one told me that the catalyst converter is under factory warrenty for 80000 miles OR 5 years. I was told that this is a fedral law for all companies.

Is there any truth in this. I guess I will be calling the dealer tommorow to find it out. But does any one knows anything about it.

 

you can call acuras customer service 800 number and they will tell you. The warranty on certain emission items are covered under a federal required warranty period. It is like 8 years and over 100,000 miles.

if you have to buy one, contact someone on ebay who is parting out a car. I know of someone who i bought several parts from and I can give you his email ...kronin21@yahoo.com...the guy's name is Ivan, and he doesn't speak very good english, but he knows the value of an american dollar. The car he parted out was an 06 from California.

 

Larry's right. This should be covered under the required emissions warranty. No worries!

 

Thx guys. The dealer is taking care of the catalyst converter for me.
My service advisor said that it usually happens if you put regular gas in. He said he has seen this before on an older RLs. But he said it is really rare the catalyst converter will go bad on a 05.

I got the car from a small dealer and who knows if he used regular gas in the car.
