Car and Driver (NOV 08) says RL getting V8?

I know this might be old, but does this article still hold true? It was released right around the time the 09 RL's started to sell, but I am unsure if it's still accurate...

Just wondering if anyone on here was a big enough RL fan to track this kidn of stuff, the article is extremely vague though.

Absolutely! It's going to be a tribrid V8 engine.... an inline-4 diesel engine to power the rear wheels mated to a gasoline inline-4 powering the front wheels along with an electric motor to help in low load situations. Early estimates say its going to put out around 430 horsepower and return upwards of 35 mpg on the highway.

In other words.... probably not. I think they're going to milk the J-series for as long as they can.

Um, welcome to 2008.

Honda has cancelled any plans for a V8 or RWD platform for Acura; this was announced earlier in the year. The Great Recession has caused Honda to stick to cars that will make it money right now. The next RL will almost certainly be the usual J3x series V6 engine with SH-AWD. The only unknown is really what it will look like.

When the economy finally picks up for good, all bets are off.
