car doesnt downshift when it should

yesterday I noticed when trying to pass bunch of cars on a very slight incline car stuck in high gear the whole way
probably a good half a block
I feel like it should have downshifted right away because of incline and the throttle position
but instead it stuck in high gear and dragged on all the way accelerating really slowly

and then I smell clutch

it has been very lazy with downshifting in general. I feel like it does not shift when it should to lower gear when accelerating just driving

what could be the problem?

the tranny fluid was replaced 3x3 with redline d4 and redline racing added that i found on this page

it feels like its slowly getting worse and sticking in gear longer

is it clutches or the gear solenoids?

Bad mpg, running rich, rotten egg smell, loss of power and 0 codes screams bad catalytic converter to me. The only that it doesn't explain is the late shifts. Usually the insufficient cat flow code takes a few miles of driving at like 40-45 mph which is why it usually won't show since most people can't safely do that...

isn't rotten egg smell from running rich also?

and which one of 3 cats would it be most common?

and wouldn't it throw codes or at least pending codes? I haven't had any codes or pending for emissions related anything since I got the car

rotten egg smell is the result of a cat going bad. it's the smell of sulfer.
you have two primary cats that are right off the heads. THOSE primaries are the ones that go bad, because of fuel (either rich or lean conditions)

so the 3rd one can be replaced with straightpipe without throwing codes?
I use shell or chevron all the time owned it for almost a year now never used cheap gas and the egg smell just started about a month ago
along with all those symptomps all of them kinda showed up at once
the smell the late shifts and lack of power
except bad mpg
and I cant confirm when the running rich started since someone just told be a month ago about black smoke on hard acceleration which is too much fuel

I short ram so there should be plenty of air coming in, if anything it should be running leaner than with stock intake pipe
any issues with crankcase ventilation in this car common?
or the intake flap not functioning properly?
it doesn't close all the way when I take it off its never shut completely and has a little bit of play in it when I wiggle it

Honestly when come to catalytic converter no one will able to sell you the "used" one, catalytic is regulate by the Federal regulation and they could get fine. However if you cool with a junk yard or person then you might "able" get one. I went through this dilemma with my old accord, however I was fortunate enough to get a new certified one for $550.

It might be challenging to locate a used one since most yards don't resell them. Aftermarket would be a good choice here.

brotherman, ALL your issues stem from the previous owner not caring or treating the car well.
a cat goes bad over time.

ok so i pinpoint the problem to the 3rd gear specifically

for whatever reason after i tried the other 2 solenoids it became more pronounced even with the old solenoids installed again

it seems like the car would shift to 3rd gear way too soon and stay in it for too long

example
i would drive normally and it would go to 3rd gear then i need to accelerate. i will be pushing what feels to me like 50% throttle and it wont downshift
car would just creep slowly from like 1500rpm until it gains momentum but wont downshift
i have to almost full throttle for it to downshift
it almost feels like when clutch slips in a manual tranny but its not because theres no smell just really lame hang in gear

interesting thing is with the ac on it behaves much better. it actually drives almost like normal. shifts sooner and feels like its accelerating faster which is strange
the only thing i can think of is something wrong with throttle position but ther are no codes and i cant find any throttle calibration settings in ds708 scanner

Am I the only one who thinks your car is cursed/a lemon?? I find it strange you're having multiple problems with the car... If I'm not mistaken, there a TSB about the software getting flashed at the dealer on this car?

yea I'm just having shitty luck with this car
pretty much almost every used part I bought for it. end up being broken too
I should have just stripped that rl with 64k on it for all the parts
I mean its almost 180k on the rl so Its not too lemony more like lemon flavored Perrier

I took it to lake Chelan few weeks ago 4 hour drive one way and back half way up the mountain 3000 or something elevation it pulled like a boss up the mountain no struggle besides that stupid 3rd gear hang and bearing noise
I was very pleased but also scared that my spacers would fail haha. but they held up too. I got blox t7075 forged aluminum spacers 15mm
