Car Died Today - Electrical ?

When I got to work this morning, I exited the car, and pressed the dimple on the door handle to lock the car. For some reason the car would not lock. Tried repeatedly, still no luck. So, I locked it using my keyless remote.

Went to my car at lunch, the car would not unlock. Used the "hidden" key to unlock the car. The car is completely dead. No lights, ignition switch will not turn, however, the horn works .

Called Roadside assistance. They recommended jumping the car off and dispatched a service truck. Tried to jump start with no luck. The car will not start.

Car towed to dealership for diagnosis. Will update tomorrow. And... yes I did turn the ignition switch all the way off.

sounds like the main fuse blew, or the battery has a cracked core.

Update - Update

According to the dealer, the door handles malfunctioned and need to be replaced. This caused the immobility system to disable the car completely. Installing new door handles tomorrow.

The system shut down the entire car.

I would have hoped that the door handle malfunctioning would not cause your entire car to be disabled.

It sure sounds like BS to me I don't have any theories but the diagnosis smells . . . .

Is it possible that you didn't turn the car completely off? That has been know to drain plenty of batteries.

According to the service manager, this is a know defect in some of the early 05 models where there is a malfunction of the door handle controls (keyless entry) and the ignition immobilizer system. This defect disables the car. I was told when I picked up my car that I could have used the hidden key to start the car.
