There is this company that sells them. http://hailblankets.com/ They are a little pricy. I have a buddy who has one and he said it is pretty thick. I personally do not have one and I have not seen his, so I cannot guarantee. Just throwing an option out there for you. I just keep my car in the garage at home and really hope nothing happens when I am at work or driving. Which on Saturday night, I got hit about two blocks from home and was able to get my car in the garage before it got too damaged. Good luck on your hunt.

Well you give no details, what is your situation (apmt, house)... how many cars... what is the budget.

garage, car port, parking deck, under a tree, build a small "lean to" style addition, move south.

I think your assumptions of hail in the south are a bit misguided. Here is a picture from Granbury, TX this May.

I personally know a girl who was working in San Marcos, TX during the April 20, 2006 hail storm. She made it to her car (Chevy S10 or similar) before the hail started, but once in her car, the hail smashed out both windshields. She had no choice but to run through the hail back into work getting pelted along the way. This storm is listed by Wikipedia as one of 20 notable hail storms in North America.

Hail of sizes up to 10 cm[13][14] results in 10,000 auto claims, 7,000 homeowner and commercial property claims ranging between $100–160 million insured losses.[15][16] One woman was hospitalized.[17] The storm was especially costly at the San Marcos Outlet Malls and a nearby Toyota dealership.[18][19]
Of the 20 listed, Texas has 4 storms.

The great plains suck when it comes to weather. Between the Rockies, the Gulf, and the flat terrain, you're SOL.

no car cover is truly going to be thick enough to protect from dings whether it be hail, small branches, or whatever else decides to fall onto the car.

the cover that company is selling is a mid line covercraft car cover, which they have marked up quite significantly (for a 3G TL, it priced at $361...go to covercraft directly and it's $230, and it's even cheaper at autoanything.com at $200).

i had a covercraft NOAH cover on my TL for a couple of yrs, and a different cover on the car the yrs before that, the car still acquired a few subtle dings from small thin branches falling onto the car. you save the paint from chips and scrapes, but the subtle dings, not so much. nothing that PDR can't help you get out.

OP-your best bet is a roof. or frantically run out and throw yourself onto your car to protect it.
