Camshaft removal

There's an RL at a local junkyard here and I'm going to make an attempt to get the front and rear camshafts out I just wanted to clarify, in my manual for my v6 TL it shows that in order to get the camshafts out I need to remove or loosen the crankshaft pulley the main one by the passenger side wheel well my question is well since it's a junkyard vehicle I don't really care about what happens to the timing belt at the end of the day would I be able to remove both camshafts by only loosening the sprockets for the front and rear and not worrying about the crankshaft at all?

Just cut the timing belt when you open the cam covers. Otherwise take an impact wrench or proper tools if you want to remove the crank bolt because it will be on there very tight.

Ended up attempting to retrieve said camshafts but didn't have a pulley holder to hold the camshafts sprockets/pulleys
Anyways I got as far as I could without taking them out and wanted to make sure that these camshafts were prime for the picking and maybe there are possible warning signs I might want to be weary of since I'm pulling these off a junkyard vehicle.

So here are a few photos I did put the valve cover back on with the bolts incase it rains or something before I comeback with a pulley holder. Lmk what your thoughts are.

Honestly it looks like oil wasn't changed very often looking from the dark brown color of engine or maybe this is a high mileage engine. Either way you would want to measure the cam lobes according to factory manual to check the wear and tolerances.

Glorygang600, you aren't paying more than $42 are you? Besides, it's all a 'roll of the dice' when utilizing junk yard parts. Make a command decision.
Good Luck!

It's your call.
Read fullboost833's thread, if you have not already, (push the blue tab next to his name & you'll go directly to it) he did not seem to sweat it, though he is a mechanic.
You still did not say how much these cams are going to cost you, from your SFlo j-yard.

Just curious, how did these RL cams work out for you, or did you flake?

Why didn’t he cut the timing belt and remove the headstuds and pull off the heads and harvest them..?
