Buying/selling 2nd Gen

Hello all,

First time poster, long time lurker!

So I have a 2005 Tech and a 2006 Tech that is wrecked. I have pieced together a perfect 266k mile 2005 from remaining parts of my 2006. I have saved $6,200ish by salvalging parts myself and doing the work myself. I've had my local dealership confuse my vehicle for a 50k mile RL lol. I am a road warrior basically that drives from KC to tim-buck-tu.

I am considering buying a 2010 RL in Chicago that is pristine condition with 76k miles. At an Acura stealer-ship.

My question is (overall, high level) is it worth retaining both my 2005 and 2006 for when parts wear out? Or should I dump both and start again from scratch? My biggest worry is the drivetrain. I lost AWD capabilities with the rear wheels after a slide in icy weather and I was able to rip the parts out of the 2006 and replace in the 2005 which saved me almost $2,900 alone. Horrific whining noise for nearly 800 mile trek home.

Thoughts and feedback please. Attatched is the 2005 last week before a deep cleaning.

interesting question and to tell you the truth, you are not like most.

I honestly believe with a 2010 RL, you could milk that thing for 10 years without needing major repairs. especially since you know the in's and out's of the RL's platform

sell both the 05 and 06 and ride it out with the '10.

The 2010 is an MMC. It's a good idea to check whether a good number of parts is the same as an 05 or 06.

assuming most mechanicals would be the same, except improved for '10

for example; drive shaft.
i dont think the '10+ display the failing driveshaft.

if he wanted a parts car, it would probably be better to get a refreshed MMC parts car.

Can you please clarify i dont know about this. You mean pre-MMC cars display something when the driveshaft starts to fail?

I think he means the MMC driveshaft doesn't develop (display) the bearing whine. However, I heard the 4G SH-AWD TL does, so many people think it was never fixed. After all, the number of MMC RLs available to study are less than 10k, so the samples aren't really there to tell.

OP, I think you will find the vast majority of things on the MMC to be either completely changed or improved to the point that using 2005 parts wouldn't work or help. Using a 2006 to restore a 2005 makes sense. Using a 2005 to restore a 2010 doesn't make much sense to me. To start, the engine, transmission, SH-AWD, navigation, and head unit are all different. Then there are things the 2010 has that the 2005 doesn't like ventilated seats and such.

If you can make any money off of the 2005, you would be better served buying new parts for the 2010.
