Buying an '05 or '06/'07 RL?

Hi,

I'm glad i found this forum, i've been browsing it for a while and i'm really enjoying reading it.

I'm not yet part of the club :-) but I'm looking at an '05 RL with 23k miles for $25k (no tech pkg) and after reading this forum i'm wondering if i'm not better to search for an '06 or newer?

I don't have a trade in and can afford to spend ~$5k more and based on the current economic situation i wonder what's the best RL i can get?

i thought the 05 didn't have packages? i thought there was only 1 model in 05, fully loaded?

either way, with such low miles, go for it and get piece of mind with an Acuracare extended warranty to cover any 'what-if' like our expensive electronics package.

All 05=Tech Package
06=Tech Package
06 Tech Package=06+ACC/CMBS/PAX
07 Base (No Tech Package)
07 Tech Package (what we think of as a Tech Package)
07 Tech Package + ACC/CMBS/PAX
08 has three trim levels, just like 07
09 has the beak (couldn't resist)

Thanks for the feedback! Based on what i've read regarding the issues with the '05 notably with the pricey electronic components, I'm concerned about the maintenance moving forward.

My mistake regarding the tech pkg, i thought that for an '05 the tech pkg was made of the rear view camera etc.. which this car doesn't have to my knowledge.

The 2005 is pretty solid--just make sure that all the TSBs have been addressed if and when you buy. In addition, you must buy the extended warranty with this car just in case.

I bought an 05 back in May, haven't had a single problem and love the car. The electronics are the same on all the cars so I don't think an 05 should have any more problems than an 06 or 07. 23k sounds like it's in the ball park, but you might be able to get a better deal given the economic situation (can't imagine there is much demand, if any, for these right now). If I were you, I would use part of that extra 5k you say you can spend on an extended 7yr/100k mile factory warranty, which will take care of everything. I paid $900 for it.

The 05, 06, 07Tech and 08Tech are essentually the same car. (no ACC/CMBS/PAX).

There are some minor differences in the MID from 06 forward over the 05.
Also 05 & 06 have ONSTAR which was dropped on 07 forward.

The 05 (and some early 06) teething issues that were addressed in TSBs.

As mentioned above, be sure all TSB are applied, any warranty work is done, and strongly consider an extended warranty.

Otherwise, focus on the condition of the car, and the price...they are not any different otherwise. The model ryear will have some impact on the price, but if the wear and condition is equal, take the older model. This is not a time to buy a car with a focus on reselling it in the short term.

Thanks i'll be planning on getting the extended warranty. What makes me twice about an '05 is when i see that for ~$33k you can get an 07 with 26 miles from a dealer http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNum ber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage= 0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending& certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-|E-|M-_1_|D-_5_|N-N|R-100|I-1%2c7|P-PRICE+descending|Q-descending|Z-94132&aff=national&paId=287675222&recnum=4&leadExi sts=true

While blue and taupe is not my first choice, if one can get further negotiate this price and get a lease at 0.9%, it doesn't make too much sense to pay $25K for an '05.

Note: the same dealer has an '05 with 26k miles for ~$30K ???
