Exclamation Bug or broken?

I've noticed that when you punch the Audio button while listening to XM that I occasionally get an erroneous display on the Nav screen. It takes one of two forms:
  • Some of the on screen buttons (for presets 1-6) correctly show the channel name (like "The '70's") while others show "Channel 20"
  • All buttons are completely blank
In all cases when I switch between XM1 to XM2 then back to XM1 the buttons will read correctly. I have seen cases (this is not consistent) where switching to another audio source (like CD) and back to XM will get the screen to show correctly.

My request to all of you is to check this yourselves and see if you can duplicate this problem. That will help me determine if I have a bad radio or if there's a bug in all of our radios.

By the way, I did call ACS on this; they entered a trouble ticket but claimed there haven't been any other reports like this. I believe that most people just don't notice - particularly since the "Channel 20" display almost looks normal if you're not paying attention.

My radio does exactly the same thing. I believe it happens when I start the car inside my garage and XM is on from the previous drive, but I'm not sure - Does it fail to get the XM signal for the stations names inside the garage? I don't know.

This morning I would tune a channel and 20 to 30 seconds later it would jump to Preview X number. It did it on several different channels always jumping back to the same preview channel. When I restarted the car this afternoon the strange behavior was gone and it has not returned.

I believe XM radio as applied to our RLs has a lot of bugs. It is most likely the interface between the RL and XM but I recommend you do not take your car in because the techs will screw it up even more. Remember, they are just trying to learn the ins and outs of the new RL and your car is their practice patient.

Just checked mine in the garage with the garage door closed.
Started car,Nav initiated and XM radion came on where it was when I last turned off the car. Pressed the Audio button and all is OK.

Will check it again tomorrow and next day, etc. any changes, I will post.

I don't think it's a garage thing because I've seen it happen with both in garage and outdoor vehicle starts.

FWIW, I have seen this behavior before and after the product updates (i.e. replaced XM module).

Have never seen this problem with my RL. The XM radio in my car is already spot on.

Noticed yesterday (04/06) that my XM kept jumping back to the preview channel. After 45 minutes or so, it was fine. I did do something regarding this however, that some of you might find interesting. I called XM (1-800-967-2346) to let them know I just took delivery of a new RL on 03/16 and wanted to make sure that I was getting my 12 month trial period. They took my name etc, and the Radio ID code, and set me up with an online account. If you don't call XM, you will get the 12 month trial period, but that period started when Acura activated the radio, not when you took delivery of the car. So if the car was in their inventory for a couple of months before you bought it, thats a couple of months less you will get on your trial. (This is what was explained to me by XM).

Next, there is a 1 year special for $60.00 which begins AFTER your 12 month trial period ends. (Thats $5.00 bucks a month guys). The promotional code you need to give them is ZWINBACKMYP1. So my free 12 month trial ends in March of 2006, and the next 12 months of XM is only $60.00.

I hope this info was of some value.

Yes, I was able to set up 24 months of service. The first 12 months are the Acura free trial, the second 12 months are on the promotion. I will be billed for the second 12 months when the promotion starts.

I just called XM radio and they say you can not add a promotion onto a promotion. If some one took your order it should or will be rejected upon final review.

You are the second posting I have read concerning this issue and if what you say is true and you can document it to me, lunch is on me if you are in Baltimore.

Have a great weekend..

To go back to the channel label issue, I get it no matter where I start the car, inside or out. Tuning to the station usually brings up the correct label.

I wonder if this is related to the delay issue many of us are experiencing?

Mmmm. About a week ago the XM would not hold on to a station. It kept going to a "loading mode."

Called XM (which by the way I believe is right up there with the cable and telephone companies with their customer no service) and they said it was probably the antenna???

On to The dealer, who initially appeared to be confused (same with door locks). After 1 1/2 hours of me waiting in the lounge the mechanic quizzed me again.

Apparently there is a fix because now the radio is fine. They also stopped the random door locking!

I too got the $60 additional year ($66 I believe with tax since I am in D.C., XM's home). It took two phone calls and asking to speak with a supervisor to get it, all about two and a half weeks ago. It had to paid right away though. (It showed up on my credit card bill this month.)

My radio XM display has frequently exhibited this action. I too swap twice between XM1 and 2 to refresh the presets.

I agree XM customer service is poor but I did get the extra year and it did not show up on my credit card.

I did ask them about a special on NAVTRAFFIC. They sent me a letter stating that 1 year is X and 5 years is 5 times X. I wrote back and reminded them that the RL has a calculator and I doubted if anybody would fall for their zero discount.

2veloce, do you know what the mechanic did? Has the fix held for you? Please let us know. Thanks.
