Brakes-RL - 2005 • Brembo OEM at Dealer or ?

re: Acura RL 2005, 69K miles
To dealer or not to dealer - that is the question...

I have the RL in for the preventative timing belt/water pump service (10 years) tranny oil flush.

Acura dealer measured the front brake pads at only 1mm with no rotor damage - thus this should now be a priority. UGH

They propose propose $540 for the front axle, pads and resurface + another $99 to flush the brake fluid they say is dirty. Given the tab is already hitting $1500 and I am wondering my options

Do I really have to turn the rotors? -that could be half that cost -

The dealer claims the parts, the fancy 'Brembos on the RL' are $226. However, in searching on line top line pads can be had that are compatible or superior for more like $50. New rotors that are slotted and again supposedly superior for about 180 for a pair, they claim rotors are $320. I know they have to make their $ but this is seeming a bit rich.

According to "BuyBrakes.com" they offer "Stop Tech" slotted rotors (if needed) and pads- all the part for $235ish (special) - they claim these are better than OEM. Therefore, I could order those in and take them to my regular local guy who would put them on for labor

What would you do?

••Haggle with the dealer?

••Put up with price?

••order in the parts/use a local non-dealer to save about $300

any and all comments from your brake experience appreciated

(PS if anyone with a 2005 RL has figured out a back up camera I would love to hear from you on how you did it)

yes - I found the other thread which seemed active - I am news to the system - just scratching my head on this - there is zero vibration - squeaks a tad if backing up on a long driveway incline - but otherwise RL is smooth as a high end Benz IMO - dream car -

Have to assume the dealer measured the 1mm correctly of course which means I should take action before an upcoming 1,000 mile drive to Eureka

I prefer Brembo rotors with OEM pads.

no vibration?... buy OE pads, get an authorized repair shop to "pad slap" and drain/refil the fluid and roll on.

thanks for your thoughts - decided to go for the dealer OEM, he insisted that they should do the resurface on the rotors to avoid vibration - added 10%, and the full line flush and new fluid - better do it right once as they say. They pointed out these aftermarket slotted rotors are really for more racing applications which is not my driving style. Cheers
