What, exactly, is the function of the "Set Up Disc"?

Apparently some of our OS (in 05 RL / MDX / etc) is too old that it needs to be updated before using new navi discs.
So the setup discs for us that needs to be updated first.
Can't explain anymore than that.

I would get it if live traffic updates were free.

OK is it applicable only to '05? I have a '07 and refuse to buy any more updates. They just don't seem to have any relevant changes.

Have you installed and do you find any improvements?

Yes, check your nav DVD. If it's a white disc then you just need the 4.K0 disc and no need for the setup disc. Setup disc is only for us with 05s.
White disc will work for anyone.

So any luck with this update? Where I can find used 2021 disc for 2006 RL?? I dont see any on ebay.

Heck, I'd take a used 2020 disc because mine probably hasn't be updated since 2006 when new.

Acura online is selling it for $149,just wanted to know if it updates graphic little bit,how good maps are and if i can resale disc after.

Yeah, get a genuine Acura 2021 for $149, yet fools on ebay are selling older versions like 2014 for $188 or more.

I doubt the graphics are better on the 2021 disc since we are talking about an antiquated DVD navigation system. Only the new/additional roads and POIs would be updated. As far as resale, I don't see why not...you own it.
