Bike Rack for RL

Anyone here recommend a good bike rack? I'm actually picking up a pair of hybrids since my wife and I are getting into biking. Any good quick mounting rack suggestions?

Only one real option: Yakima. Google is your friend.

Yakima works well but it won't be cheap.

Or... you can install a $150 hitch (from Ebay / Google shopping) and then use one of the many hitch mounted bike racks behind your trunk. It will cost you less than the whole Yakima setup.

I did and it gave me a bunch of Thule links... I knew something better was out there. Do you personally use a Yakima on your RL?

The Superjoe 3 Looks nice

I used a complete Yakima set up on a Volvo wagon I owned two cars ago. Bought a newer Volvo wagon and the Yakima didn't fit- they did not have a roof rack solution for that Volvo model. I kept the rack set up anyway, stored in the shed.

Traded the wagon for a 2006 RL, and BINGO! The Yakima set up fits beautifully on the RL, works great. Is it expensive? Yes, but it holds onto the car perfecty, and handles the bikes securely and with care, and it's one of those thing that you don't want to cheap out on.

I recommend a hitch mounted rack. That way you know you won't scratch your car. ALL roof mounted racks scratch the car, unfortunately. Also, hitch mounted racks will prevent you from driving into your garage with your bike(s) mounted on top.

Scratching your roof will happen. It's a guarantee. Driving into your garage with bikes mounted will happen. This is why I went with a hitch mounted rack, and I don't have to reach on top of my car to get the bikes mounted/unmounted, either.
