Anyone install themselves or have had the delaer install the backup sensor option forthe 05 RL?
How does it work, and what is involved in the installation? How does it "tie in"
what provides the "beeping" to make it work?

The backup sensor installation is rather involved. The info on the honda acura world website under Instructions.

 

How much does it usually cost to buy the backup sensor and have it installed?

 

My dealer throwed it in, but other dealers asked around $1200 (half for the device and half for the installation).

After my dealer first time did it I noticed that some wire was hanging (!) from under the rear bumper and the sensors were not sitting tight on the bumper, so I asked them to redo the installation. In an hour they did it again and hopefully right this time.

Good thing is that it beeps different tone from rear and corner sensors, so you can easily hear where the obstacle is.

 

I had the dealer install one. It works fine but just provides an audible signal (as opposed to visible plus audible which our previous Cadillac offered). Three stages-close, closer, and closest where closest is about 1 foot from the object and is represented by a continuous beeping sound.

The cost fully installed was $895.
