Auto dimming side-view mirrors

Hi all,

I am posting in this forum after a really long time partly because i have given up hope that Acura isn't interested in competing in the league of BMWs, Benzes, and even Infiniti's and Hyundai's now

Anyways, lately i have been doing plenty of driving on my beloved 05 RL. One of things that annoys me most is reflected light from side-view mirrors. Unlike the new generation of e.g. Acura TL 2008/2009, my RL doesn't have the "blueish" hue/tint on side-view mirrors. Is it possible to get it somehow on my RL? If so, have any of you tried it? Where should i go looking?

Thanks

P.S. I did speak w/ my local dealer about this topic. They said they only deal with 'stock parts' and are unable to do these modifications if not standard on the model.

Straight to the point, the fix for you is to tint the windows.

As far as 09 RL having a "blueish" hue/tint, I have never noticed it with my car. Side mirrors are supposed to be reflective...that's how you can see behind. Only auto dimming option is for the rear view mirror.

Yeah, this is one feature I was ranting about the other day. How the hell does my 2004 TL have the dimming side view mirrors and my 05 RL does not.

there needs to be some clarification here. The 04 TL does not have side dimming mirrors. They are tinted blue for a few reasons. 1. to aid driver view 2. to help with the glare 3. to give a better appearance.

Real auto dimming mirrors are appear like regular mirrors when not dimmed, and dark greenish blue when dimmed like the center mirror. The BMW 7 series does that and I've seen it first hand. If you want the blue tint, go to a tinting place and have them apply the Mercedes Benze blue window tint.

bro..I clearly remember pushing a button in my TL and it turned into a greenish blue slowly.
I think you should go check your SSM

The RL's side mirrors have a slightly bluish tint to them but they don't auto-dim. I looked at mine today after encountering this thread. No great loss frankly. Maybe the next RL, whoops, I mean Legend--click , will have that feature.

My X5 has that feature for the side view mirrors (it was an option) and it's nice to have... the mirror glass itself isn't cheap because of the dimming option (it's basically two pieces of glass with liquid sandwiched in between....when electricity flows into the liquid it darkens via a chemical reaction).

I agree with 037, the alternate method is to get window tint. Not only will this help with glare, it will help keep your interior in good shape and protect it from UV in the summer.

that's the center one, my side ones never changed colors, and neither have the other 10+ tl's I've had in my possesion.

um...I don't know if you guys are seeing things, but I had an 06 TL Navi that had NOTHING special about the side mirrors and my current RL sticks to that.

If you can find something a bit more official about special tinting of side mirrors I'd like to check it out.

For the record, mine were always clear and no button to dim or whatever.

all,

thanks for the valueable feedback.. indeed i would agree that auto-dimming is an overkill for the side-view mirrors, but glare reduction is a must for night driving... i do have huberoptik tints on my windows, however, this still doesn't cut out enough glare... i assume the only other option, as suggested by many is to get the side-mirrors tinted.
