So the plastic shield is literally just a shield to block debris from the CMBS unit behind the grill (in your observations)?

So they sent me a part that I didnt need. This is part #9 (Non CMBS)

Front

Back

The difference with #10 is imagine the 4 parts that are 3D shaved down so that back part is flat and the front, instead of holes for the emblem, the emblem is already there but it is covered in clear plastic like the pic of my grill. #10 is slightly heavier but not visible electrontic and no plugs or anything.

Ultimately, it's easier to wash the shield than to try to clean the crud off the sensitive radar unit behind it.

Congrats on the successful conversion, but some sort of shield would seem advisable.

If the emblem housing has a solid back, then the shield seems redundant.

The shield is fine if you want to call it that. They are both basically an emblem holder that works as a CMBS cover. It doesn't need to be $400

exactly my point. I could have saved money and modified the emblem holder, mind you not as nice looking but still.

I am 99% certain that it has taken 8 years here to discover the that plastic shield has no electronic purpose.

There has been one guy here that's done the conversion and another that bought his grill after he sold it. Neither has said anything about it? After sourcing out the parts and seeing the costs, that was the first thing I was wondering about. GO HONDA!!

KB1Spec only had a 2008 Tech I. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-photograph-gallery-91/06-tl-08-rl-501330/

Since the shield is plastic, it is susceptible to UV damage causing hazing. We have seen threads here where people were nervous to buff the shield thinking it was critical to the CMBS/ACC. Up until yesterday, I thought it had an ACC component in it.

Thats right...KB1Spec. My USDM shield hasnt faded at all. If there are components in it, they are embedded but I highly doubt it. Im going to switch out over winter months. I need to protect my investment :S

Yeah the shield is just there to protect the radar unit...The non ACC grill is much smaller where the emblem sits and the ACC grill opening is much bigger to allow the radar to work properly.

So I got the rest of my aspec kit and installed the front yesturday so I decided to take pics of the back of the shield and the CMBS unit...

Back of the shield

CMBS Unit

And for kicks in case anyone cared what the Headlight washer unit looked like (I always did), here it is. The pink and yellow thing at the side is the ear plug I had to use to stop the washer fluid from leaking. The PDF was US based :S
