Anyone using the DPSF AWD Fluid?

Getting ready to do my annual fluid change. Just curious if anyone is actually using the new recommended fluid for the rear Diff or is everyone still using Z1?

Using the new stuff - it costs quite a bit more than Z1 though. Maybe 50% more expensive ...

I don't think you can buy the Z1 any more, but could be wrong.

It's in a bottle called SH AWD Fluid. No self respecting parts guy should be able to miss that.

Well, actually that adds some confusion. When you order the part listed above, you get this.
Name: DSC07938.jpg
Views: 3857
Size: 27.8 KB

But I suppose you got this.

The difference? An "A" at the end of the part number.

Now I've got to find the service bulletin that tells what part number.

DPSF

Fixing the part number to reflect the "Acura" fluid.

Acura is notorious for taking identical Honda parts, slapping an A on the end of the part number, and charging more. I personally do believe that the DPSF and Dual Pump II are the same fluid, but there is no confirmation on that. If you ask Acura, they will always say to use DPSF.

Still, the "DPSF" above is a link to the Acura AWD fluid and it actually costs less than the Honda stuff, so there is no need to experiment with your RL.

I will note that I do have the Dual Pump II fluid in my RL and many others have it in their SH-AWD diffs with no issue. The Dual Pump II fluid is Honda's AWD fluid used for the CR-V, Crosstour, and Element. It is the AWD fluid that goes into the rear diff. It is believed that Acura went back after the SH-AWD fact and discovered that Dual Pump II was better suited for the diff than ATF-Z1.

Didn't know we could use the Honda fluid too ... Will have to check if I can get it cheaper the next time I have a rear diff fluid change.

ouch

$10.67 + 0.75(tax) per quart at Acura dealer in Atlanta

the parts guy had it handy, right under the counter

back of the bottle says it contains petroleum distillates (shorthand for something like kerosene or other light solvents)

there must be some incredibly completing requirements inside that magic gear box

The link above sells DPSF for $7.04 and no tax (unless you live in AZ). They sell Dual Pump II for $7.06. All you pay extra is shipping, but if you buy enough, this is usually less than tax and certainly less than tax + gas to get to the nearest dealer.

Holy s**t, I didn't realize I was getting a smoking deal on my AWD fluid. I paid 8.25 a quart at my local dealer here in Detroit

That's crazy! But then again, the first thing I noticed in Detroit when I moved here was that the general cost of living is cheaper than 90% of the country...

 Very true, but if I told you I'm in Livonia, Michigan, you'd have no clue where I was! If you make a good salary and are on the technical side of the business, as opposed to the manufacturing side, you can live like a king here.
