Anyone here who's RL is their wife's daily driver and not yours?

When we were looking for an AWD for my wife, she pretty much settled on a Lexus RX350. This was 2 months ago and I searched all the recent posts on the RX forum to see what owners were saying about their RX's. Most of the posters (men) said that their vehicle was their wife's car, which didn't surprise me in the least. Most of the people driving an RX in our area are women.

2 months later, we are now RL owners instead of RX350 owners and find that very few if any women seem to be on this forum, just like the RX forum, yet most of you folks are the owners of your cars - men. Do any of you own an RL yet your wife is the primary/daily driver?

Just curious.

Well you found one. I bought it for my wife in Dec. She loves it. She has owned 3 Acuras now. 1991 Acura legend LS. Which she always regretted getting rid of. 2003 Acura MDX. which we still have, She wanted to go back to a car. It is her daily driver

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it would be the rare exception to fine a woman in any 'car' forum.... so I bet there are more women RL drivers out there, we just never see them.... you don't see them at StarWars conventions or Three Stooges Film Festivals either.

I think the other doc is correct, these forums are full of guys, or ladies pretending to be guys so they don't get harassed.

With that said, my RL is all mine. The wife has touched the steering wheel once in my seven months of ownership, and that was to move the car a few feet.

Cool, glad I'm not the only RL household that the man doesn't really get to drive the RL much as it's their wife's daily driver. I love when we have upcoming trips as THEN and only then do I get to drive it. Or, "oh honey, I think you're getting low on gas, I'll be MORE than happy to fill up your tank for you".

2 hours later... "Sorry, honey, I got kind of side tracked, driving your car... all over creation".

It's not my wife's daily driver, but she is making noises about the Toyota mini van, and how comfortable the RL is to drive. I hope I won't be driving a mini van soon. More likely she will want me to buy her an MDX or something like that.

If you decided to let her drive the RL and you take the van simply because of her harping then you might as well chop off your penis because you'll have lost your manhood.

Good idea on dumping the van for something better.

Absolutely true. Just because all- almost all- the people here are men doesn't mean that almost all RL drivers are men. In fact I've seen quite a few women RL drivers. Car enthusiasts, true sports fans- someone who'll turn the tv on and watch a sporting event without anyone in the room- are men. God bless us all.

AND "wise guy eh?". When is that new Three Stooges Movie coming out? I thought Bruce Willis was going to play Mo?

My wife and I drive together for work, 90% of the time I'm driving...occasionally she'll drive back home if I'm tired. If we didn't work in the same building, I suspect the RL would be her primary driver and I would drive my "beater ('01 civic)," or my 350z.

They better not ruin The 3 Stooges with a remake! It was bad enough when they replaced Curly!

And Chas... I agree... if you swap the RL for your wife's mini-van... I'm going to throw your "Man-Card" in the wood chipper.

Typically when we buy a new car, my wife is the daily driver. I want her to have the most reliable and safest car. Besides that, she's worth it! She drives our '06 RL on multiple trips each day to meet with business clients. Often times days are from 7 a.m. to 8 or 9 p.m. so I want her in the best car we have in order to ease my worries just a bit. I drive it on weekends and trips, so it's like a "new car" experience for me each time! I appreciate it more with every drive, and for the past 5000 miles the car has performed flawlessly!

That's why my wife is in a new Pilot. It was more safe than the Accord we traded in to get it. And it really drives like a car, too. But if she wanted to drive my RL, she'd be safe in that too.

We bought the 05 RL for her in 2005. Last August I purchased an 06 TL for me. The RL is her daily ride, the TL and the 02 Sonoma PU are my rides. She lets my drive the RL on road trips.

Man, I'm learning stuff every day here. I really like your philosophy. Puts marriage in perspective. You're a great husband. Thanks fo reminding me what it's all about .

It's nice to hear from a true gentleman here.

BTW - pussywhipped? I wouldn't mind that now and then .

I'm a girl and I LOVE my RL!! I do not see many RL women drivers in the DC area. Although, there are a TON of TL women drivers in the area.

I kind of like being a rarity. I get alot of compliments from men (about my RL that is) at the gas station, valet, at work, etc!

I don't think the men who "let" their wives drive the RL are p***y-whipped at all! I applaud WESPAR for wanting his wife to be safe! That is one of the many reason why I bought the RL for MYSELF in the first place.

Continue on gentleman.

How nice to hear from a member of the fairer sex! Guys, it looks like we'd better clean up our act a little.

Here in SoCal I've seen only a handful of RLs. I know of 2 that are driven by women and I imagine they too get a lot of compliments (on their RLs that is).

Thanks for posting that response, DC lady. Just the other day we saw a young gal in her early twenties driving a blk on blk RL and yesterday a lady at my gym got into a black on creme color RL. I was tempted to walk up to her and tell her I admire her car, but decided to just walk on.

I get XM radio installed in MY BMW this Wednesday. I can't wait. If it wasn't for her RL I never would have been exposed to XM so I'm happy as a heck.

Ditto, as of today. My lovely bride moved the RL from the driveway to the front of the house to save a parking spot while I was driving her Odyssey to a cycling event. Thoughtful of her, but perhaps I should consider keeping the remote in my jersey pocket next time...she does have a history of scratching rims when parallel parking. Come to think of it, so do I.

The RL is my wife's DD. Wanted the best for her as she drives our daughter around and wanted her car to be ready for anything (Honda JAPAN reliability, awd, crash safety, etc). Her previous DD was the Element before and swore she would never drive an SUV ever again.

I traded in the S2000 for an LS430, which was traded in recently for an MDX because we needed more room. DD for me? I dont need one.. I work in Manhattan. But for the weekends I have my M3

My wife will never drive a BRAND NEW car again because she is afraid of denting or wrecking it ... unfortunately, from past experience. Now, she'd rather take a hand me down after I drive it for 3 to 4 years.

Trying to get my wife to agree to take over the RL so I can justify buying a coupe for my daily driver - like maybe a G37. But she says the RL is "kind of complex" so she doesn't know if she'll like it. Not too disappointed about this though - still love the feel of the RL nearly one year after buying it.

Female here. Not an RL owner, but sole owner of my TSX. I agree, there aren't many women on this or any car board.

BTW, I love the RL. Such a good lookin' car.

My daily commuter is our Vespa scooter to the Park 'n Ride (20 miles r/t) to a Phoenix Metro Bus (50 miles r/t) while the wife enjoys the RL as her daily commuter (75 miles r/t). It gets better gas mileage than the MDX obviously and the scooter gets 75 mpg which ain't bad these days.

Hi all,

I am a woman (Normcat was our cat's name and I adopted it long ago). The 2006 RL (Opulent Blue Pearl) is my main car. My husband drives a 2006 Porsche Cayman S which is a great alternative to the RL - which we both love.

Purchased RL for ME (and only me).. but, i am married, so needless to say, i caved in when my signficant other put on the sad_puss_in_boots_face and said 'honey, can i drive your car' .. what she intentionally left out from that sentence was FOREVER

its come to a point where she looks for excuses just so that she gets to drive the car.... excuses like, "i need shoes" (ohh wait, thats not an excuse, its a necessity) ... hehehe
