anyone have photos of RL w/ hitch?
looking for photos of RL w/ trailer hitch. The Curt hitch is the only one I can find listed but unable to find photos of one mounted on RL. We have an 06.

i have it
on my RL. it took me 30mins tops. Here is the problem. the RL is low in the back if you back out of a slated driveway the hitch hits/scapes the ground. i have for my bike rack. it also sits low on the RL you see it clearly. easy to do.

Thank you. The U-haul one looks like it is a little better but as always it is better to see one on a car. We saw a honda the other day with a hitch and there was a big square hole cut in the bumper to make it fit. Something like that I can't see doing. I am hoping for something that doesn't look bad when it is on and something that could be removed in 30 minutes when we aren't using it.

again i have the curt..
hitch on my 05 RL. i posted that it sits low but it is a do it your self 30min job. it is unbreakable, unmoveable if you put it on correctly. the uhaul hitch you will have to put that on by drilling holes/cutting into your rl. I will never do that to my RL!!! i do not know how to post pics???

no more than 100 lbs of luggage in the trunk or two people in the back seat. The tow limit on an RL is only 1000 lbs. There are some small trailers out there about 500 pounds and that is all we need for a 1 time tow. I don't want to rent a U-haul truck cross country for 500 pounds, nor do I want to drive my 35 year old VW bus across the USA to haul it either. Parts are too hard to come by.

I have the Curt hitch installed on my car and its solid. The clearance is not bad at all. You can easily reverse over one of those parking curbs without hitting it. I will post pictures in a bit.

This is the CM11336 model and required no cutting. I installed this nearly a year ago, so I don't remember the instructions exactly, but there was definitely no cutting needed. I remember that the instructions called for silicone or some type of waterproof sealant to plug up the holes around the bolts so that rainwater doesnt seep into the trunk and rust things up. I've gone through a year of Chicago weather without the sealant and haven't had any rust or anything.
That plastic piece was removed from the bottom of the car. If you look at the plastic piece, the 2 holes on the sides are the same holes that you use to mount the 2 bolts on the back of the hitch. The last top hole on the piece was just a plastic grommet if I recall correctly.
I use this with a bike rack and have had no issues with the hitch whatsoever. Just make sure that if you're buying it to use with a bike rack, don't bother with a low quality one. Thule or Yakima only. I bought this crappy 'Bell' bike rack from Walmart for $110, and this thing was terrible. Also, the clearance between the trunk and that bike rack was razor thin and so if you slammed your trunk with the rack on, you would definitely slamming the trunk on the rack. I'm about to put the rack back on, and if I have time, I'll put on the Bell bike rack real quick and take pictures to show you what I mean.
I bought my hitch on eBay for $176 last July.

we ordered a curt hitch last night. Noticed that they make an extender for it also for things like bike racks. We will probably use it for bicycling also.

I bought the Curt CM11336 for $164.00 shipped and although it came w/ a cut-out diagram....there was no cutting involved. No one knew anything at the places I called. Took half an hour to install. Luckily it came with and extension that was L-shaped to invert the extender higher as the one for my '00 TL was straight and sat too low.

Great info. I went to a uhaul dealer a year ago for a hitch. The guy wanted to cut off the loop on the back of my RL. I was not going to let him cut anything. The picks for the curt show that it uses the loop to secure the hitch. That is what I was looking for and I will make sure to get the extension. I had been using a strap-on rack but it is not very secure.

So I've been looking at a hitch for a few weeks now and it seems the only option is Curt. However, looking at the pictures above from plee7677 I'm wondering if the hitch sits a little low. It just seems to a bit off. Or is that just me?

A straight hitch can only sit as high as the rear bumper which is pretty low. You could probably get a tall ball mount to compensate. Like so,

I just bought a 2005 RL and this post iand forum is really helpful. I have a curt hitch on my 2011 Accord coupe using a Thule rack and it extends eniugh to clear the trunk. I just avoid or go slow on dipping driveways etc. I'll put a water bottle on ground to compare clearance as in your pick.

After reading this forum and some research I believe Curt is the only hitch out there for the RL. IMO, I still think the hitch sits a bit low (gap between the hitch and rear bumper) but I think that might be due to in case the car has aspec kits on it. Anyone else have experience finding other hitches?

Interesting. I can't find one for a US spec RL.
