Anybody else do this to their tips?

So I started off just cleaning and polishing the tips. I was using Purple Power and 0000 steel wool. While I was doing the outer lip I ended up taking some of the black paint off the inside of the tips so I ended up just going the distance. About 2/3 of the way through the 1st tip, and an hour and a half later, I ended up just buying a buffing attachment for my Dremel. The buffing attachment did the rest in under 10 minutes. I used White Diamond metal polish/sealant to finish them up.

I believe that they are designed flat black to hide engine carbon buildup.

Thanks man.

I assumed that's why they did it. With the sealant on there it shouldn't take too much to keep them clean. Just have to remember to take an extra step when washing the care.

I did the same thing with my tips awhile back, I personally like them better all polished. I'll use the Dremel method next time.

It was ridiculous how much quicker and easier it was with the Dremel. The TL is next.

I use a pretty coarse steel wool and haven't even scratched my paint. If I do though, I will go the distance. Looks pretty good. However, I think the black helps to make them look wider than the pipe really is, so I'll keep it until then.

Not a fan personally. Looks odd because of the tiny exhaust compared to tip size

They only look clean so long as you don't drive it. The inside goes black very quickly and within a couple of months you will get fed up with the extra cleaning involved and may wish that you had never started the project.

I guess it is a matter or personal preference.

The Accord tips do not have the black finish either.

I wouldn't call that exhaust tiny. What is it, 2.5"? To see a tiny exhaust, look at a Civic DX.

Thanks for the input guys. If the cleaning gets to be too much I can easily paint it back.

Personally, I like the way it looks. The tips are so far back and close to the bottom of the bumper you can barely see the outer edge anyway. I like that the exhaust is much more prominent looking now.

.
You won't have to paint it, it will be black in about a month.

Yeah... to me that looks like you put some Accord tips on there.
