Any forced induction/performance RL builds?

Just wanted to know if there are any people on the forum that are currently doing heavy engine performance related mods to their RL's right now? I'd really like to read about/see some of the RL's that are sporting some impressive power.

To me, the RL/Legend has been one Honda's most well built platforms in many aspects. Just FYI, I have a build in progress (see link in my sig) that consists of doing a turbo build on a RL motor in a 98 Accord. There's plenty of potential out there for you guys.

Has anyone considered ever doing an 07-08 TL-S ECM swap? I've always wondered if it could work in relation to the RL's awd system. Don't see why it wouldn't TBH.

I've seen ur thread and read some through it b4. Its an impressive built you've got going there. I don't see any RL guys into that much hassle sorting out parts but would have been nice to see what your motor could achieve with the RL's drivetrain.

There has been a TL-S CT supercharger here. 270 whp @ 0.5 psi IIRC. $8000 is sort of a deterent, though.

Thanks.

Doing the same work to an RL drivetrain would be awesome in regards to being able to put the power to the ground yes...couldn't agree more. What would be even better would be doing this with a 6MT like in the 2012 TL j37. Not only would you have optimal traction for the boost, but you also would have absolute control over the powerband. I believe I've seen this somewhere, hmm...oh yeah, here:

Gee, I just don't know what to say about running a half of a psi. You could probably get a full one psi out of an electric supercharger off of eBay. Lol.

And for $8000, you could be a real pal and just buy everyone here on Acurazine one of the kits if you were looking to waste money.

I can't remember where I say it but there was a guy that bought the CT supercharger and I think he even installed/dyno'd the car afterwards. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Princelybug beat me to the link. That's the only FI 2G RL I know of. Others have asked about doing it, but no one else has gone through with it.

What the hell do you think I was talking about? And why are you being condescending to me when I am helping give you info you asked for. I didn't do the build; I just told you what was done.

I'm sure it's never really been delved into due to the RLs weight and nobody in their right mind would gut an RL just to have added performance. Lol

But, it would be a religious experience to drive a grand vehicle as such with the commodity of 15-20lbs at the demand of your foot. Big, heavy car or not that thing would MOVE!

Well, I was told that a shop was hired to do experimental work for Honda that involved adding a quick spooling, moderate sized turbo to the new TL. Not sure if it was production/road race purposed but either way....yummy.

My apologies if I came across like that. I was speaking indirectly (to the readers) and being sarcastic. No hard feelings.

I've been thinking about buying an RL and doing one since the RL uses J35A8, same as teh TL-S that has a hondata tuning kit available. If it works then you could bolt on a turbo and run it at low boost and go from there.

Not sure what you meant because that could be taken as two different ways BUT you made me think about one of the two I've never really thought about. This first one being this: Many people think that the ECM's are the same. They are both j35a8 engines, have almost identical wiring harness, use the same high/low speed CAN bus system, blah blah blah. But there is a difference...one difference. That would be that the TL-S ECM sends signals to control and activate the cooling/condenser fan relays whereas the RL has a Radiator Fan Control Module (RFCM). This and the fact that Hondata DOES NOT support the RL ECM's part numbers and therefore is not tunable, yet.

The second way would be the one I just thought of reading your post: One may be able to install the TL-S ECM onto the RL and modify/convert the wiring from the RFCM to just using standard fan relays. Everything else should be pretty simple from what I can visualize in my mind. Of course a 2007-2008 TL-S VIN would be required to lock Hondata down to the RL but everything else may still be compatible between the TL-S ECM and the immobilizer. The are both Type IV immobilizers. However, I do possibly foresee other issues pertaining to drivetrain/chassis electronics such as the ABS, traction control...MAYBE even the AWD system but I could be totally wrong and may be well worth trying out.

The base design of the ECM's are the same so you RL guys may have a way out on this one!

I've seen many 2g RL's here in Dallas for around $10k and that's without really digging. I bet you could easily find one with some minor issues/high mileage for up to a few g's less which would make an idea candidate.

I'm ready when y'all are...

There are 2 RLs across the nation (on AutoTrader) for less than $7.75k.
