Allow myself to introduce...myself

Hello all. I have decided to buy a 2005-2006 RL and so the hunt for a nearly perfect one has begun. I have had imports most my live. I started out with an '88 Honda CRX Si and still have it (it is now a turbo SCCA car). Then I moved onto a Cadillac STS. Loved the ride and power, hated the reliability. I ended up trading that in for a CPO 2000 3.2 TL loaded with Nav and loved it. Years later I got the urge to trade that in for a BMW M3 and have regretted it since. Now I am getting tired of the M3 and looking to go back to Acura. I had never really looked much at the RLs, mainly the TLs caught my eye. That all changed when I swapped cars with a buddy of mine who had an ’06 white RL with the A-Spec steering wheel and shift knob. Needless to say it was all over from there.

My biggest problem is modifying cars. If they are reasonable fast to begin with, I end up trying to make them much faster. Given the general lack of aftermarket parts available for the car, I think I will be in good shape. At most I may add the Mugen kit and some H&R springs and have the car of my dreams.

And thanks Touge for making me see just how nice an RL can look

Welcome aboard. Lots of good folks on this site , very knowlegable crew. Best of luck with your search. Expect mid-20s for a car with 40000+ miles. I currenlty have 57900 on my '06 - troublefree fro the most part.

Welcome, if you are the speed head that I think you are the RL may not be the best platform based on your other cars.

She has some power, and the AWD is great, but she is a big girl.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I am looking for a nice, quite car to drive back and forth to the office. I am keeping the M3 for a weekend car and will eventually sell it to start a new toy. Thinking twin turbo Z06. I have always wanted to build an american v8

Mugen Kit and/or A-Spec kit look nice. Lower it with H&R or coilover makes it more subtle and really make the car flow very well. I have an Amuse body kit and I would not recommend it. I only picked that kit because it looks very aggressive but when you drive into certain places, front will scrap. The front sticks out quite a bit. I see a lot of RL/Legend owner here or in Japan they opted for either Mugen Kit or the A Spec/Modulo kit. So that is how I feel about it if you were decide to put aftermarket parts.

Indeed it was. I love movies and the funny ones are locked into my brain forever. Not sure if that is a good thing at times.

I like the Mugen kit the best but I am trying to decide if a front fascia only would look silly (like an accord with a huge wings west front bumper and nothing else).

I was thinking about doing the front first, then the rear and maybe the side skirts later if I decide to.

To me, this car has one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen. I mean it puts some $80k+ cars to shame!

I will be picking your brains before long but I have learned a ton already.

You're right. I've always loved the dash/interior.
A little bit luxury, but not too cluttered. I do wish they would stop making real wood look like shiny plastic. I think the wood shifter and wheel don't add much. I really like the 09 shift boot, but not the added wood/ plastic?

Indeed. Well, with any luck I will find a nice one. I just wish they made a dark gray one with the 'peanut butter' leather like the did with the TL. I always thought that was a classy interior. Then again white on the cream leather is pretty amazing. Sorry, I will learn all the color names soon.

+1

I consider the white/black ebony leather to be the best color pattern hands down! It looks nice on all automobile spectrums from a sporty M3 to a highend S65 AMG, and looks spectacular on a RL.

Yes..I almost got the white with black but for some reason they mark it up $2000 more and they only have one in Modesto..which is around 4-5 hour drives from where I live. And the dealer here won't do a trade since it was year end model change. So I settle for a graphite gray

Welcome and I see you're already getting good advice.

I agree that Touge made the RL into something worth desiring.

I to came from a bmw (e60) to the Acura RL. It seems like no matter what car I get, I have to modify it somehow or someway. I picked up my RL in the beginning of Feb. 2011 and have not regretted taking this route in terms of reliability, comfort, and peace of mind.

Amen to that! Feels like most cars leave the factory at about 85% of their capacity . . . hence the mod itch.

Sounds fun! Those are great-looking cars.

Sometimes it's fun to see the spec on someone else's car.
